Summary
Fallout 4’sbig next-gen update dropped a couple of weeks ago, and in true Bethesda fashion it was a bit of a disaster. While somecouldn’t access the update if they owned Fallout 4 via PlayStation Plus, it was PC players who ended up drawing the short straw, as all the update really did wasbreak most existing mods for the titleand implement a horribly stretched out widescreen feature, adding very little in the way of actual improvements.
We all know that modders usually pick up the slack whenBethesdagoofs up, andactually attempted to remove the update themselves shortly after release, but you probably won’t be surprised to find out that they’ve done exactly the same here. One Fallout fan has put themselves through “hours of research” and has managed to create a collection of various user-created Fallout 4 mods to build the “True Next-Gen Overhaul” that Bethesda failed to deliver.

This collection of mods was first shared by creator P40L0 onResetEra, who was inspired to sort something out due to the hype surrounding the Fallout TV show. you’re able to find the collection of mods they’ve put together on Nexus Mods (which will require you to create an account as there’s an 18+ mod in there), and P40L0 even went as far as to upload a trailerto their personal YouTube channelto showcase the changes the mods make.
Fallout 4’s “True” Next-Gen Update Is Here Thanks To Modders
As for what downloading this collection of mods will get you, most of them are focused on improving the gameplay and graphics of Fallout 4, something that Betheda’s official update doesn’t actually do. Lighting, textures, the weather system, character models, water, and enemy AI will all be improved with this set of mods, and you can immediately see the difference by walking around areas such as Sanctuary, which is filled with much more detail and vegetation.
Audio will also be improved, making the sound effects much more immersive, while the game’s UI will also see improvements via a more immersive Pip-Boy HUD and menus. There are plenty more quality of life improvements in the set, all added thanks to the talents of one of PC’s most talented modding communities, and you can even see which mods are included onthe collection’s Nexus Mods page, as well as the modders behind them.

To download this set of mods, you’ll need to make sure you have the latest version of Fallout 4 and all the DLC, and have run the game at least once before you attempt to install them. You’ll also need to make sure you don’t have any other mods installed as they could cause problems.
