Summary
Fablejust got another trailer at theXboxGames Showcase. Here, we also got a release window of 2025.
The new trailer brings us back to the day-to-day life of our new hero, an unnamed woman trying to start out as an adventurer. She appears to be under the tutelage of a retired hero, Humphry - who is played by none other than Matt King, perhaps best known for playing Super Hans in Peep Show.
New Fable Trailer Revealed
The trailer mostly appears to be cinematic, but we get glimpses of gameplay here. This includes combat, but also walking around a city setting, interacting with NPCs. Like in previous Fable games, it looks like our reputation as a hero will be an important factor to consider, as we amass both fans and enemies around Albion.
As for the aesthetic, the settlement we see our hero explore looks straight out of the original Fable games. Even the overlooking castle looks familiar, indicating that the new developer, Playground Games, will pay homage to the games that came before.
Fable is being developed by Playground Studios, developers of theForzaseries. The original games were made by Lionhead Studios, but it was shut down byMicrosoftback in 2016. At the time, it was on the cusp of launching the Fable live service, Fable Legends.
If you’re interested in reading more about the original Fable games, we have athree-partserieson the development of the main trilogy.
Fable was previously rumoured to betaking inspiration from The Witcher series, so we’ll have to wait and see if that amounts to anything. This same report claimed that the game was going through an identity crisis at the time, so hopefully this has been addressed since then.
Now, we’ll just have to wait until Playground and Xbox are ready to give us a better look at the gameplay. We don’t have a specific release date, but the trailer confirms that Fable will be with us at some point next year. It will launch across PC and Xbox, with no PS5 port being mentioned at this stage.
