There are plenty of ways to buy assorted goods you’ll need to progress inStardew Valley, and the wildcard option for the majority of goods available in the game is with the Traveling Cart. This merchant visits Pelican Town twice a week, and she brings with her a wide variety of goods.
Though her stock is almost entirely unpredictable, the Traveling Merchant is a great way to find items outside their regular season, far earlier than you’d normally find them, or even for less than they normally cost. The Traveling Cart is a massive help with the Community Center, too!
Where And When Can You Find The Traveling Cart?
Every Friday and Sundayin Stardew Valley, leave your farm from the South exit and head into theCindersap Forest just South of your farm, as this is where you’ll reliably find the Traveling Cart. The Merchant parks North of the lake in the Forest and isopen from 6AM until 8PM.
The Traveling Cart pays an additional visit to Pelican Town during each evening of theNight Market, which takes place betweenWinter 15-17each year. On this occasion, you’ll find her in aboat parked by Willy’s housedown on the pier at the Beach.
Finally, as of the version 1.6 update in March 2024, the Traveling Cart also makes an appearance during theDesert Festival, which runs fromSpring 15-17in the desert.
The Traveling Cart’s stock changes each day during the two festivals, so be sure to swing by every day to see what she’s got.
What Does The Traveling Cart Sell?
A shorter list would be what the Traveling Merchantdoesn’tsell. Each day you see her, the Traveling Cart will haveten assorted items, as well asone piece of furniture. There will also be occasions where she has arare itemin stock, too, bringing the total toup to 12 unique itemseach day.
Whileher prices are almost always inflatedfrom what they’d be at Pierre’s orJoja Mart, the Traveling Cart stocksalmost every itemfrom the following categories, with a few consistent exceptions.
If an item is not listed in the exceptions list, it has an equal chance to appear in stock on any given day that the Traveling Cart is open.

Artisan Goods
The Traveling Cart will stock the majority ofregular artisan goodsthat you produce on your farm using additional machinery.

If it’s not a piece of farm equipment, if you may make it from your crafting menu, so can the Traveling Merchant.

Unless it’s a Ginger Island crop, the Traveling Merchant probably has some of the regularStardew Valley cropsin stock.

Fish and Beach Foraging

Find Red Cabbage Year One
If you’d prefer to leavecompleting the Community Centerto the regular amount of chance, we won’t stop you! But becauseRed Cabbage seedsaren’t normally sold until Year Two, you’ll need to rely on the Traveling Cart if you hope to find one your first year in Pelican Town.
Thankfully,when you create a new save, if you know you’re going to be going the Community Center routeinstead of the Joja route, in theAdvanced Optionsmenu, you’ll be able to select"Guarantee Year One Completable"for the Community Center. This is best done when working with your regular bundles instead of the remixed ones, but the effect is the same.
Doing soguarantees that the Traveling Cart will stock between 1-5 Red Cabbage Seeds your first year. If this option isn’t selected, there’s still achanceshe’ll sell it your first year, but by choosing that option in your settings, you guarantee that she will.
You won’t know when she’s selling the seed until you see it on the stock list, so if this option is selected, be sure to make checking the stock at the Traveling Merchant in Stardew Valley part of your weekly routine.
The seed only shows up in the Traveling Cart stock list once per save when this option is selected, which means if you forget to check the Traveling Cart the day she has it in stock, you’re out of luck until Year Two after all, so be diligent in checking!
