Quick Links
AFK Journeyhas a huge selection of characters that are able to fulfill different roles. Every character falls into a specific rarity, though rarity doesn’t necessarily dictate how good the character is. Not all S-Tier characters are locked behind the S Rarity, and not all C-Tier characters will be the more common A Rarity characters.
The Factions of AFK Journey provide another kind of variety for the available characters and will help them with their utility. Whether they’re the Graveborn’s Viperian, the Hypogean’s Berial, the Celestial’s Scarlita, the Lightbearer’s Valen, the Wilder’s Granny Dahnie, or the Mauler’s Satrana, their utilities are extremely diverse.

Odie is a fantasticdamage dealerwho also has the ability topoison enemies.
Scarlita
Scarlita is fantastic becauseshe gets her buffs out to her teammates quickly and before most other buffers do.When not buffing, she has massive potential for damage dealing.
Unfortunately, most of her utility is locked behind leveling and ascension, so you need to get really lucky on your pulls and get her multiple times.
Shakir
Shakir is a bit of a jack of all trades, but he’s fantastic at pretty much everything.Damage? Buffs? Debuffs? He’s got you. What’s more, he works great on pretty much any team.
Silvina
Silvina is a wonderfuldamage dealerwho likes toget behind the enemy’s backline and take them out.
Her biggest weakness is thatshe’s frail,so she’ll die early if you don’t have someone toheal or buff her.But if you do, she’ll be one of the best units on your team.
Temesia
Temesia is one of the few characters whorides a mount, meaning that she is able tobypass many of the enemies' defenses and natural obstacles.
She’s also a really good damage dealer. Overall, she’s a great DPS who can’t be hindered as much as other DPSs.
Thoran
Thoran is one of the best tanks in AFK Journey. No matter who’s on your team, no matter who he’s facing, he’ll be able to take it. Some of his best skills are locked behind ascension, but even without that, he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Vala
Vala’s strengths is thatshe targets enemies on the backline, but she is able to do so from a distance. This gives her a leg up on a lot of other characters who do this because she will be harder for enemies to take out.
Viperian
Viperian is one of the best DPS units in the game.He excels atone-shotting enemies and doing it quickly.
He works best with other Graveborn characters, but he’s pretty flexible and works great on other teams.
A-Tier Characters
These characters will make great additions to your team.A-tier characters are some of the best at what they doand are definitely worth investing in. A lot of them will work well with most team compositions and other characters.

They specialise insingle-target attacks, able to deal high numbers of damage to them.

Koko is a fantasticsupportive defensive unit with a lot of versatility, provided she doesn’t have her role fulfilled by a character with similar abilities.
Lucius
Lucius is a really solidshielderthat gets the job done. He works great on most teams.
Parisa
Parisa excels atdamage dealing and inflicting debuffs. What stops her from quite reaching the S-Tier, however, is that her abilities largely depend on who she is paired with and what enemies she’s facing. When Parisa shines though, sheshines.
Reinier
Reinir is an overall fantasticsupportcharacter whodoesn’t require much investment or ascensionto reach their full power.
Rhys
Rhys is afantastic DPS character with great coverage. They specialise in single-target and multi-target damage, making themextremely versatile.Rhys is also a very flexible unit who does great on most teams.
Salazer
Salazer is another fantastic character who, unfortunately, getsbogged down if he doesn’t have the right teamcomp. His attacks scale off the enemy’s HP,and he’s meant to take down big bosses.
He’s pretty frailand needs to be given a little bit of time to fully maximize his moves' potential. If youpair him with a good shielder or healer,he’s right up there with most S-Tier characters.
Seth
Seth is one of the better DPS characters in the game, who also comes with theability to heal himself, meaning that he cankeep himself alive with minimal help.
Unfortunately, to make the most of him, you’ll need to nearlymax out his levels and ascension.Otherwise, you may find him falling a bit short on you. But his abilities are definitely worth the investment.
Smokey and Meerky
Smokey and Meerky areone of the best buffers in the game, but their utility falls flat if they aren’t placed on specific teams.
They tend to do best withother Mauler characters, but not so much with Rogue characters.
B-Tier Characters
These characters are alright, but mightfall short in some waysthat A-Tier and S-Tier characters won’t. These charactersmight be best in a certain nicheor when paired with certain characters.
If you like their playstyle or even just their design, then they’re well worth building.
Arden
Arden isbest on a team with a lot of crowd control. He excels atsupporting crowd-controlcharacters, in addition to being a decent damage dealer himself.
Brutus
Brutus' abilitiesallow him and his team to become tankier for a limited time.Unfortunately, if you don’t keep a close ey e on him, you may find thathe can be quite frailwhen that ability is not active.
Still, if you need someone to give your team a bit more time to take enemies down, he’s a decent choice.
Igor
Igor is a good character, but he’s a little niche. He doesbest inPVP battles, but he lacks a little bit in other kinds of battles.
He’s really good atstaying alive and dodging attacks,so he doesn’t need a lot of support to stay alive. With proper investment, he can rival most other attackers.
Kafra
Kafra’s biggest weakness is thathe’s a very niche character, but when placed inteams with a lot of offensive characters,he really shines.
Korin
Korin is afantastic DPS,but most of his strengths arelocked behind leveling and Ascension.

Kruger is one of the betterdebuffersin the game, but he’s unfortunately not good at much else, making his usefulnesspretty situational without a lot of investment.

Marilee is agood all-round character, but her problem is thatshe doesn’t shine in any particular area.
She can do a lot of things, but she’s slightly above average at most of them. If you need a really versatile character, she’s a great choice.
Mirael
Mirael is a decent DPS, butshe gets outshined by most other DPS characters.Still, if you like her fire spells, she’ll serve you well.
Rowan
Overall, Rowan has the making of an A-Tier or S-Tier character:he has some of the best supports in the game and fits well on most teams.
But where he really falls apart is that he isextremely frail. If you don’t partner Rowan with agood healer and a good defensive unit, he crumbles very quickly.
Satrana
Satrana isreally good at the beginning of battles, where she can get out all her buffs more quickly than most support units.
Unfortunately, herdamage output is a little middling without proper investment, and she’snot very good at staying aliveunless she has a good healer nearby.
Walker
Walker isgood at dealing damage to multiple enemies at once but average at everything else.
If you have an extra slot on your team and you’re not sure what to do with it, Walker is a solid choice. Otherwise? He’s just ok. Don’t waste your resources on him if you don’t need to.
C-Tier Characters
These characters fall short in a lot of ways. They might not be bad, per se, butthey’re going to get outshined in most respects by the characters in other tiers.
Maybe these characters haven’t had their time to shine yet, or maybe they will become more useful in future updates.
If a character you like is on this list, go ahead and build them. What matters in the end is that you’re having fun with the game.
Atalanta
Atalanta is a decentAoE attacker. If you need someone who can hit opponents from a distance, she’s a decent choice.
Unfortunately, there are a fair amount of characters whodo what she does better.

Even when she is fully invested, most characters still do what she does better.
Lumont
Oddly enough,Lumont is a really frail tank. He’s a good option if you don’t have any other defensive options, but once you obtain more Tank characters, they are more worth investing in.
Valen
Unfortunately, Valen is a victim of power creep. He getsoutperformed by pretty much every character that does what he does.
Still, if you like him, he’s decent butmay require additional investmentlater on down the line.
