Summary

Some weirdos might throw out Battra or Hedorah, but nothing can beat the original and his on-and-off giant moth rival.UniVersusknew this, and so slammed the two together for one of its two Godzilla Challenger Series decks.
Launching alongside the more villainousKing Ghidorah and Rodandeck on June 21, Godzilla and Mothra is offering some of the best art UniVersus has ever featured in a raw slugger-style deck full of powerful cards and deep cuts to Toho’s expansive Godzilla lore.

As cool as King Ghidorah versus Godzilla is, these decks don’t have to be played in isolation. You can play them against any other UniVersus deck, or take them apart and play the cards with thedozens of other seriesthat have made their way to UniVersus.

Godzilla And Mothra As Your Deck’s Leaders
Depending on whichgiant, city-stomping monsteryou pick, the Godzilla and Mothra deck can play very, very differently.
First up, Godzilla himself is all about playing expensive attacks. Any attack with a difficulty of five or greater immediately gets an extra +3 damage, which makes cards like Destructive Slam, Heat Ray, Kaiju Clash, and Mega Burst crucial for big damage.
Fortunately, you’ve also got access to Godzilla’s Enhance ability, which makes it easier to succeed in playing those big cards by having your check boosted. You’ve also got City Rampage, which has a Form ability that also raises checks by an additional two, turning those five difficulties effectively into one difficulty when combined with Godzilla.
On the other hand, Mothra uses high-difficulty cards to increase their speed and slip damage past. It’s also got a discard theme, which pairs very well with Heat Ray to get bigger, and eventually faster, the more you discard.
If you want other ways to discard, Electric Moth uses it as an Enhance cost to draw upwards of three more cards to keep your hand stocked.
Finally, you’ve got Mechagodzilla, Kiryu. This can’t be used as the leader of the deck, thanks to the Good and Order icons on it, but its ability is somewhere between Godzilla and Mothra. It has a heavier discard theme than either of them, but also still loves big, high-difficulty attacks. For this, you’ll be wanting to discard as if you were spending momentum for the EX and Powerful abilities, while then redrawing your hand by playing attacks that cost five or more.
How To Get The Alt Art Cards
Like the King Ghidorah an Rodan deck, Godzilla and Mothra have a whole bunch of alt art cards. From the more traditional Mothra and Godzilla art, to the absolutely stunning History’s Greatest Monster, and even a second look at Mothra’s weird Shobijin twins, these make up some of the best cards in the entire release.
To get your hands on them, you’ll need to pull them from the Collector’s booster that comes included with the deck. It’s random chance which cards you pull, so if you wanted the full set you might need to go out and get a few copies of the deck and hope for the best. Alternatively, if you just want playable versions of the cards as game pieces, just one deck will give you everything you need.
UniVersus
Formerly known as the Universal Fighting System (UVS) UniVersus is a collectible card game in which you build decks of cards, with an additional Character Card that represents you and can access powerful Enhance abilities.
