Summary

Fortnite’sbig collaboration withAvatar: The Last Airbenderis underway, bringing with it a series of Mythics (and some pricey skins) that will let players control the elements.Firebending, Waterbending, Airbending, and Earthbending were all added earlier today, adding various new mechanics and abilities for players to mess around with, but Earthbending appears to have already been vaulted by Epic, and the reason why isn’t all that clear.

There are two potentail reasons being banded around by Fortnite fans at the moment, one of them being the lack of impact that Earthbending actually had on enemy players. There are several people reporting that Earthbending was either dealing no damage to opponents, or very little, despite hitting them point blank with boulders the size of cars.

Other players are reporting thatthey struggled to even hit people when Earthbending themselves, and the general consensus seems to be that it’s by far the worst form of bending added in this collaboration. It’s possible Epic could have vaulted the mythic to give it a big of a tune up and feel a little better for players that get their hands on it, though there is another theory behind the vaulting that has a bit more weight to it.

Fortnite’s Earthbending Mythic Is Making Builds Obsolete

Twitter user Shanyshdwshowcased a potential issue with Earthbending in a video earlier today, letting other players know that the Mythic can actually hit people through build walls if used correctly. In their video, they show themselves in a scrap with another player, which results in their enemy erecting a five story building in two seconds to protect themselves. The classic Fortnite defence mechanism.

Rather than demolish the building, it seems as though Shanyshdw is able to push themselves up against the wall and use Earthbending to pick up a rock inside the opposing player’s build and hit them with it, immediately killing them while also demolishing the build around them. Sure, it would be extremely feasible for Earthbenders to do that in the show, but it is a little busted in a video game that reolves around putting up walls to protect yourself.

Again, we have absolutely no idea why Earthbending has been vaulted, as Epic doesn’t really give out that kind of info, but it seems likely it’s one of these two issues which is the cause. It’s unlikely that Earthbending will be vaulted for ages -like the Wings of Icarus were until May 3- especially since the Avatar collaboration has literally only just got into high gear, so we’re more than likely just waiting for Epic to fix whatever it has an issue with. Hopefully anyway - are you really an Avatar if you can’t throw boulders at people?
