Summary
Elden Ringplayers seem to be pretty disappointed withShadow of the Erdtree’sboss fight cutscenes, upset that certain lore heavy characters in the game aren’t introduced in a special way or have no dialogue during or after fights.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree may be some of the best work that developerFromSoftwarehas ever put out there, but we all know that nothing is absolutely perfect. We saw that withall the initial complaints surrounding the DLC’s brutally difficulty spikes, but now that the dust has settled, attention has turned to another element of Shadow of the Erdtree that has fans a little disappointed.
It’s fairly customary for big powerful boss fights in FromSoftware games to have a cutscene to introduce them, whether they serve to let you know about the scale of the fight you’re undertaking, or just to intimidate you a little. Elden Ring was filled with them, as cutscenes played before fights with Godrick, Malenia, Mohg, and several other big baddies, but quite a few important boss characters have absolutely zero dialogue and no introductory cutscene, causing some fans to think they’re a little “anticlimactic.”
Be warned, we’ll be talking about various bosses throughout Shadow of the Erdtree, some of them fairly late in the DLC.
Shadow Of The Erdtree Players Wanted Rellana And Commander Gaius Story Cutscenes
Two boss fights in particular have disappointed fans a little, those being Rellana, Twin Moon Knight and Commander Gaius, since both are tough as nails and relatively important to the lore of Elden Ring. For example, Rellana is actually the sister of Rennala and the auntie of Ranni the Witch, connecting her to two of the base game’s most important characters, and Reddit user Revan reckons that she “definitely should have had an intro cutscene” due to her importance.
Commander Gaius, Bayle the Dread, and Romina, Saint of the Bud are also mentioned as bosses with heavy lore implications, yet have no cutscenes or dialogue to denote that. Personally, I thought Romina was an optional boss until the Remembrance dropped, and I found out she could be the creator of scarlet rot. There are also quitea few complaints about the final boss(which we won’t spoil here), with Reddit user Dess_Rosa_King calling the period after the fight “so f***ing anticlimactic.”
Of course, there are a few exceptions, as the cutscenes introducing Midra and Messmer are mentioned as possibly the best in the entire game, but it seems like the majority are disappointed with how few cutscenes there actually were. We know that FromSoftware likes to tinker with Elden Ring though, so there’s a chance these fights could be updated with dialogue at the very least, but it’s all a little lackluster at the moment.
