Ahead ofShadow of the Erdtree’slaunch later today, FromSoftware rolled out a free update forElden Ring. It adds a slew of quality-of-life features such as a ‘recent’ tab in the inventory while marking newly picked up items with an exclamation point, but it also makes a huge change to the final boss.
At the end of the game, afteryou’ve beaten Radagon of the Golden Order,you’re transported to an endless liminal plane with ethereal golden tree trunks as far as the eye can see. It’s here thatwe fight the Elden Beast, the Elden Ring itself. Despite the arena being enormous and completely open, you’re able to’t summon Torrent. You have to run around, boots splashing in the water, as you chase it from end to end.
That changes today. The update makes it so that you may finally ride your trusty steed as you fend back the titular god. It’s a much more fitting end, finally able to complete your quest with the one companion you’ve had by your side the entire time through thick and thin.
Elden Ring Fans Are Over The Dark Moon
The Elden Beast fight has always been divisive among the community. The huge sprawling arena meant a slow-moving Torrent would have to lug themselves all the way across just to reach their opponent, who could in a heartbeat teleport to the other side. Torrent makes things a lot more manageable.
“The fight is no longer an intolerable piece of dog sh–” wrote one fan, cutting straight to the point.
