Summary
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreealready has a new contender for the hardest boss in the DLC, as the Blackgaol Knight is already humbling thousands of players.
We knew thatElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreewas going to be difficult. Aside from the fact that this is a FromSoftware game, director Hidetaka Miyazaki himself saidthe studio wanted to “push the envelope” in regard to how much difficulty players can take. Despite this warning, many players have gone into Shadow of the Erdtree with a sense of optimism, only to be greeted by a boss that isestablishing himself as the DLC’s hardest bossand is humbling seasoned veterans with ease (thanks GamesRadar).
Blackgaol Knight is the boss in question, a completely optional fight that can be found tucked away in the Western Nameless Mausoleum close to the start of the game. Unlike your standard massive, snarling Elden Ring bosses, the Blackgaol Knight is rather small in stature, more akin to another player than a walking mass of teeth and talons. Unfortunately, this seems to be part of the problem.
Elden Ring Fans Are Being Humbled By Shadow Of The Erdtree’s Blackgaol Knight
For starters, Blackgaol Knight has what can only be described as a flaming crossbow machine gun, which he will use to pepper you with arrows whenever there’s any distance between you. His melee weapon of choice is a huge greatsword that will melt half of your health bar if he gets a hit in, and these two weapons make him a threat at pretty much every range.
Even when you do get some attacks off, there’s no guarantee that the Blackgaol Knight will just stand there and take them. Like other NPC encounters, he has the ability to roll and dodge, meaning he hits hard and is quite agile. He’s also able to heal himself with a flask if his health is running low, making him an absolute nightmare to take down quickly.
All of these things combined makes Blackgaol Knight an absolute force of a boss fight, and one that players will want to try and overcome, as he’s in the way of one of the DLC’s better armor sets. It seems as though slower builds may have trouble dealing with him more than agile builds, though I’m sure there are already 50 videos out there of people beating him while taking zero damage.
