Summary

Elden Ring’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has said thatShadow of the Erdtreehas “pushed the envelope” ofFromSoftware’s infamous difficulty curve. Yikes.

We’re just mere hours away from the long-awaited release of Elden Ring’s only expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, and while I’m sure that most players have spent the last few weeks preparing themselves for the challenge ahead, it seems like their efforts aren’t going to make all that much of a difference.

Shadow of the Erdtree Elden Ring DLC

One of the main things that FromSoftware’s games are known for is their high difficulty levels, something that was definitely front and centre in Elden Ring. When Shadow of the Erdtree was first announced, many fans wondered just how tough of a time they were going to be in for, something that the game’s director has finally commented on.

Shadow Of The Erdtree Has “Pushed The Envelope” When It Comes To Difficulty

As reported by GamesRadar+, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazakirecently spoke to CNETabout the upcoming expansion, where he directly commented on how difficult it’s going to be. If you were hoping for an easy ride, then I have bad news for you as Miyazaki said that FromSoftware has “pushed the envelope in terms of what we think can be withstood by the player”.

Considering how challenging the rest of FromSoftware’s games already are, that certainly sounds like Shadow of the Erdtree is going to up the ante when it comes to its difficulty. Miyazaki also noted that the boss battles (of which there are reportedly more than ten) are going to be the main challenge that players are going to face, with the optional ones being “especially difficult”.

“Of course, some bosses are a necessary part of the story development and arc, but some are not. The ones that aren’t are especially difficult, I think will pose a very good challenge and obstacle for players.”

If you’re a fan of FromSoftware’s work then none of this is going to come as a surprise to you, but it’s definitely worth keeping your expectations in check if you think Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be a walk in the park. Even the most experienced Elden Ring players are going to have a tough time on their hands, it seems.
