Summary
It’s been a long time coming, but EA Sports will be releasing a new college football game, and it won’t be long before players can get their hands on it.
Officially announced in 2021, EA Sports College Football 2025 will launch on July 19. It will come in three editions: Standard, Deluxe and MVP, and it will only be playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. This would make it the first EA Sports release among its major annualized sports titles (Madden, NHL and EA Sports FC) to be solely released on current generation hardware. EA Sports UFC 5 was the first overall release to ditch PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, though it is not an annualized title.
The release date announcement was also joined by a reveal of who will be on the cover for the first college football game in over a decade. The last college football game released – EA Sports NCAA Football 14 – featured Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson.
Colorado, Texas And Michigan Represent College Football 25
Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Texas' Quinn Ewers and Michigan’s Donovan Edwards will share the cover for College Football 25 when it drops in July. Check it out:
The trio represent some of college football’s most popular athletes. Hunter, a cornerback and wide receiver, had a breakout campaign in 2023 for Deion Sanders' Colorado team. Ewers, a quarterback, helped lead the Longhorns to a 12-2 record in 2023. Meanwhile, Edwards was part of Michigan’s College Football Playoff National Championship winning roster. His inclusion marks the fourth time a Michigan player is on the cover of a college football video game, the most in history.
“It’s just a blessing to be able to be on the cover,” Huntertold ESPN in an interview. “We grew up watching this and looking at the covers, and now we’re on it. When I was young, I waited till 12 o’clock to get every NCAA. It was my favorite game by far. I still play the old NCAA 14 to this day.”
When the game launches in July, the trio will make up a portion of college athletes who officially signed over the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) to be part of the game. Per ESPN, over 10,000 athletes opted into the video game. Those who officially opted in were paid $600 and they will also receive a copy of the game ($70). Beyond having the likenesses and names of on the field athletes, the game will feature all 134 FBS teams along with the College Football Playoff and bowl games.
Who Else Is On The Cover Of College Football 25?
The trio of Hunter, Ewers and Edwards makes up just the standard edition of the video game. A Deluxe Edition cover was also revealed, which features the trio along with Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck and Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins.
Jerseys of prominent college football programs; USC, Notre Dame and Oregon among others can be seen in the background. While those jerseys are represented by actors, real-life athletes from those universities will be part of the game.
Over on YouTube, Hunter shared a video documenting the entire cover shoot. Even if you’re not a college football fan, it’s a pretty interesting look at all that goes into creating a video game cover. Thursday’s reveal is just a teaser of what’s to come. EA has announced that a full reveal will be debuting on Friday, May 17. What that reveal will bring remains to be seen, though it seems likely that fans will get a first look at gameplay and modes.
