Summary

Whileit isn’t exactly Dragon Quest 12, the legendary JRPG franchiseis releasing a new entry later this year. This time, the publisher is taking fans back to the past, to the game that started it all. Indeed,Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is bringing the story of the Erdrick Trilogy to modern consoles, and the other two titles will follow suit in 2025. For reference,Dragon Quest 3 is chronologically the first game in the series.

When the game launches in November, it’ll boast more than just pretty graphics. That said, the graphics are indeed gorgeous, having taken cues from Octopath Traveler and Live A Live. The game will feature a number of small improvements and enhancements that, when added up, help makeDragon Quest 3a new feeling game within the bones of the original. Some of those enhancements include updated UI, a rerecorded score and adjustable battle speed.

The experience doesn’t end there, either. Asaccording to information from Japanese publication Game Spark, which has sincebeen picked up by Push Square, the game will boast two different modes and three difficulty options. What’s more, according to information obtained by Game Spark via Square Enix, the story will also be revised.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Will Have A 60 FPS Option On PS5

ThePlayStation 5version of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake will have two different modes available at launch. It’ll have both performance and graphics modes, according to Game Spark. The performance mode, as is usually the case, will put the game at 60 FPS.It’s pretty standard fare when it comes to major current gen console releases, but it’s still a nice touch.

As for the difficulty options, there will be three. A normal difficulty simply titled Dragon Quest and a hard difficulty called Draconian Quest exist alongside a new easy difficulty that’s reportedly called Dracky Quest. The Dracky Quest difficulty prevents the player from getting incapacitated while also increasing damage. Bosses won’t recover HP automatically, either. Meanwhile, the hard difficulty increases damage taken and lowers XP and Gold.

That said, the ability to autosave will be possible whenever. As for the story, Yuji Horii has supervised a revision. The story will still be faithful to the original, but as Game Spark notes, Horii has overseen other narrative changes in the past, so it’ll be interesting to see what changes are made. Either way, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake looks like the best kind of modernization of a historical JRPG.
