Yesterday’s Summer Game Fest showcasemight not have been what a lot of gamers were hoping for, but it was an absolute goldmine for Dragon Ball Z fans.Not only did wefinallyget an official release date of October 11, but we also got our best look yet at the story mode and a bunch of gameplay mechanics.
Funnily enough, some of the most interesting things that we learned about Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero weren’t even a part of the game’s trailer andactually popped up after Summer Game Fest on the game’s official website. Some of these details even come from the pre-order bonuses for the game, with one interesting mechanic finally confirmed thanks to Super Shenron.
Sparking Zero Will Make You Work For Its Massive Roster
One of the bonuses included in the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is a free “Super Shenron Summon” which, just like in Raging Blast and Budokai Tenkaichi, seems to be one of the methods for unlocking items and characters.As pointed out by Twitter user AirDokkan, the description for the summon reveals that it lets you “obtain items such as costumers or zeni, or to unlock playable characters”.
Importantly, this confirms that some of Sparking Zero’s characters won’t be unlocked from the start of the game and will have to be earned, either by using a Super Shenron summon or through another currently unknown method. This is just like it was in the older games, where you had to play through the campaign in order to get the strongest fighters.
Real ones remember the pain of starting up Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and having no idea how to unlock Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.
Although I’m sure that some people would prefer to have every fighter from the start of the game, having to unlock characters is something that fans of the original Budokai Tenkaichi trilogy have been wanting since Sparking Zero was announced, as it gives you an actual goal to work towards rather than just having everything straight away.
