Summary

Earlier this year,Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero producer Jun Furutani said thatthe new Budokai Tenkaichi game wouldn’t have split-screen, but the PlayStation Store appears to now contradict that.

It’s worth keeping in mind that Furutani also said that the team is trying to find a solution and is keenly aware of the demand.

As spotted by ResetEra user stopmrdomino, the page lists optional online play and support for up to two online players with PS Plus, as well as 1-2 players.

Allegedly, this was only just added to the store page, so perhaps we’ll see the mode revealed duringSummer Game Feston Friday.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero’s Steam Page Has Also Been Updated

What makes this even more interesting is that the Steam page has also been updated, with Sparking Zero now listed as “Single-player” as well as supporting Online PvP.

One theory is that split-screen hasn’t been confirmed yet due to difficulties with getting it to work on Xbox Series S, a problem thatBaldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios also ran into. Games on Xbox are expected to have parity between Series X and S, so that means getting split-screen to work across both consoles.

Spike Chunsoft may have kept split-screen under its belt until it was confident that it could get it working on Microsoft’s console. But this is purely speculation - nothing has been confirmed yet, and we don’t know for certain that the game is even getting split-screen at launch.

We still don’t have a release date for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, but according to a new legal trademark document, the game has six months to launchunless publisher Bandai Namco files for an extension.

That lines up with a previous Singapore rating which claimed thatthe game would launch in 2024. We still have six months left in the year, so it all fits together nicely.

Perhaps when it does arrive on our shelves and in our digital libraries, it’ll have split-screen like the Budokai Tenkaichi games of old. Fans certainly hope so. We’ll just have to wait and see.
