Summary
Gameplay previews ofDragon Ball: Sparking Zerohave confirmed that it’ll be bringing back the taunt mechanic from the PS2 trilogy.
Thanks to Summer Game Fest, the last few weeks have been an absolute goldmine for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero news. Not only did wefinally see the back of the “Wishlist Now” message by getting an official release date, butwe also got a ton of gameplay information from hands-on previewsand the slew of new gameplay footage that came along with them.
Although most of the gameplay footage we’ve got of Sparking Zero so far has simply focused on characters and shown us how a select number of the roster will play,eagle-eyed fans have managed to uncover some interesting detailsthat haven’t been officially talked about just yet. One recent example of this is the confirmation that taunts are going to be returning and that they might be renamed emotes.
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Will Let You Taunt And Emote
Over on Twitter, ZiedTa shared an interesting screenshot of Sparking Zero’s pause menu that seems to have come from someone’s preview footage. The screenshot shows an explanation of how Taunts and Emotes work in Sparking Zero, which inadvertently reveals that they’re going to be a part of the game.
According to the pause menu, holding the left stick down will open a taunt menu, which seems to suggest that each character will have more than one taunt. Interestingly, despite the menu referring to the feature as “Taunts”, it seems to also call them Emotes at the same time, which could suggest that they’re one and the same.
Sadly, we don’t have any footage of taunts (or emotes, whatever you want to call them) being performed in-game, but it’s nice to know that they’re going to be making a return from the classic Budokai Tenkaichi games. In those games, each character only had one taunt they could perform and the animations were generally shared between characters.
Fans have speculated that Taunts were going to be making a return to Sparking Zero ever since the first gameplay footage of Whis was released,as he can be seen pulling out an ice cream and eating it at one point in the trailer.
Here, though, it seems like the mechanic is going to be getting a bit of an upgrade as it appears that each character can equip more than one emote at a time and then select which one they want to use. It’s not clear if these will be character-specific or if they’ll be more generic, but here’s hoping we get at leastoneFortnitedance.
