Summary
It’s no secret that whenDragon Ball: Sparking! Zero launches on October 11, it’ll have not onlya boatload of characters from throughout Dragon Ball’s history, but also a plethora of modes. Already fanshave learned that the game will have a story mode featuring “What If” scenariosas well asa ranked system. It’ll even have a couch co-op mode for splitscreen play, though that mode will only be limited to one map.
Perhaps the most interesting of all the modesis what Bandai Namco is referring to as “Custom Battle.“The mode is exactly what its name implies, though there is an interesting twist. That twist helps differentiateSparking Zero’s version from that of other fighting games, and it just might be the best mode of them all when all is said and done.
Players Will Get To Create And Share Battles With The World
According to Bandai Namco, Custom Battle will let players do the following:
Recreate your favorite battles from throughout the DRAGON BALL story, or set up your dream story battle with your favorite characters! Share your creations with other fans and experience the battles brought to life by imaginations around the world.
In other words, gamers can recreate Teen Gohan and Cell’s iconic fight as it was depicted in the anime. Or, they can replace Gohan with Future Trunks and recreate history. Of course, the mode also opens up the potential for meme battles. What if Hercule did actually finish his fight with Kid Buu? Or what if Yamcha was the one who took down Raditz? With that in mind, the possibilities seem endless, and it’ll be fascinating to see what fights the community comes up with, both realistic and not so realistic.
But the mode will go beyond player-created battles,as according to a press release, it will also boast battles designed by the developers. Given that the story mode will let players go through key moments of one of eight characters, could the developer designed battles be things that didn’t make the cut? For example, Custom Battle could be the area where the battle between Goku and Turles from The Tree of Might movie is recreated.
It’salready been confirmed that Sparking! Zero will have a season pass on day one, which will feature content fromDragon Ball Super: Super Heroas well asthe upcoming Dragon Ball Daima anime. Could Custom Battle be where the developers include battles from those events in lieu of story content? It remains to be seen how exactly Custom Battle will play out, but it does have the framework to be the most intriguing mode ofthe spiritual successor to the Budokai Tenkaichi series. And if push comes to shove, having Yamcha go up against all of Dragon Ball’s most iconic villains and sharing that with the world is guaranteed to be fun.
