Summary

Dragon Ballfans aren’t sure if Goku’s Ultra Instinct Sign and Mastered Ultra Instinct forms will be transformations for his Super variant, or completely separate characters inSparking Zero.

As expected from the fourth entry in the Budokai Tenkaichi series,Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has a humongous roster of playable fighters, frommeme picks like Yajirobe and Mr Satanto hard-hitting beasts like Beerus and Broly. One of the most exciting things about the game, however, is that ittakes things to the next level by adding characters from Dragon Ball Super, a first for the series.

Sparking Zero also has plenty of representation for its two main characters, Goku and Vegeta, which excitingly includes Goku’s two Ultra Instinct forms -Ultra Instinct Sign and Mastered Ultra Instinct. As great as it is to have these two forms in the game, there’s been some confusion about whether they’re transformations for Goku (Super) or separate characters.

Dragon Ball Fans Are Confused About Ultra Instinct In Sparking Zero

The debate over Ultra Instinct’s position as a playable character in Sparking Zero started whenUltra Instinct Sign was revealed in the most recent trailer and highlighted as being part of Goku’s Super variation. This made it seem like he might be a transformation for Goku’s Super form and that Goku can go from Base all the way to at least Ultra Instinct Sign.

Over on Twitter, Dragon Ball Twitter account DBSparingZERo started a discussion about the state of Ultra Instinct and started off by going along with this train of thought, pointing out thatboth forms of Ultra Instinct are marked as Super on the game’s websiteand therefore are likely transformations for that version of Goku.

Problem solved, right? Well, you’d think so but a lot of fans seem to disagree with that idea. One fan pointed out that there’s agap between Goku’s Super form and his Ultra Instinct transformations on the game’s massive roster sheet, which suggests that they’re not linked and that Ultra Instinct is a separate thing.

On the side of Ultra Instinct Goku being a transformation,Twitter user Thunderlight333 pointed out that the English websitehas yellow text for both forms, suggesting they’re not separate characters.

Other fans have argued that Ultra Instinctwill work like Super Saiyan 4 did for Vegeta in Budokai Tenkaichi 3and technically be part of “Super” Goku’s roster of forms but not be a transformation. If you’re not a Dragon Ball fan you’re likely very confused right now, but it seems there’s a good bit of evidence for either situation being what happens in Sparking Zero.
