Dragon Agefans have votedMorrigan the best romance candidateinOrigins, surprising basically no one. It wasn’t an easy win, however, with Alistair coming in a close second.
This is according to a huge poll shared on the Dragon Age subreddit, with more than 4,500 votes cast. Fans were able to rank their favourite options from one to four, with each ranking giving that character points. Here, Morrigan takes the lead with around 9,000 points.
Dragon Age Fans Still Love Morrigan
This poll was run byReddit user BelovedDesperado, who’s recently run several others of its kind. It was through another poll that we learned thatplayers still think the Hero of Ferelden is the best series protagonist, followed by Hawke, and then the Inquisitor.
Back to the romance poll though, and as you can see, it’s pretty close between Morrigan and Alistair. This isn’t too surprising - they’re the first romance options you come across, and the hardest to miss. Seriously, I somehow avoided recruiting Leliana entirely on my first playthrough. It baffles me to this day.
Both Morrigan and Alistair tie into the main story too, which adds another level of engagement with their romance arcs. Without delving too hard into the details, you romancing them might even influence some pretty big decisions towards the end of the game, whereas Zevran and Leliana’s paths are a little more self-contained. Outside of Zev initially being hired to kill you, of course.
It also doesn’t hurt that Morrigan gets an entire DLC dedicated to finding her after the events of Origins, which is obviously more impactful if you hook up with her. It’s safe to say thatBioWareput a lot of effort into her romance back in the day.
We’ll have to wait and see if similar polls are run for the rest of the series, because that will be interesting. Personally, I’m predicting a race between Isabela and Fenris for Dragon Age 2, at least if the perception online is anything to go by. ForInquisition, that’s harder to call. There are way more options, and some of them are only open to characters of certain builds. Although it has to be said that Solas has someverypassionate fans, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get close to the top spot.
