Summary

Dragon Agefans were shocked to learn earlier this month thatDragon Age: Dreadwolf is no more. Well, thegamestill exists, but it’s undergone a complete rebranding, now known asDragon Age: The Veilguard.

The response to this news was pretty much unanimous: that kinda sucks. Not only were we all used to Dreadwolf, but The Veilguard just doesn’t seem to roll off the tongue as well. Now, fans are hopingBioWaremakes yet another name change, dropping the “The” from The Veilguarda at the very least.

Dragon Age Fans Want The Veilguard To Drop The “The”

As you’re able to see, the main gripe people have here is with the “The” before Veilguard. It is strange why BioWare didn’t opt for just Dragon Age: Veilguard, since that would fit in with previous naming conventions (apart from Dragon Age 2, the awkward middle child), but it is what it is.

Just for good measure, fans have come up with a bunch of joke titles the game could use instead, which makes The Veilguard sound a lot smoother in comparison.

BioWare has shed some light on why it decided to change the name so close to launch, explaining that it better suits the game. It was argued that The Veilguard is"not a game about Solas", so the name change puts the focus on the companions instead. This would keep things similar toDragon Age: Inquisition, at least, as that was named after our new party.

Still, that doesn’t explain why the name is so clunky. Fans are also split on how to abbreviate the game, opting for both DA:TV and DA:V - certainly not as clean as previous games. At this point though, the devs are hard at work promoting the game ahead of its launch later this year, so we’re unlikely to see another name change now.
