Summary

Dragon Age: The Veilguard’srecent gameplay trailer had fan favorite character Varric take center stage, though some think that he might not live to see the credits roll.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard wasfinally revealed to fans earlier this week, and whilethe announcementandgameplay trailershave been somewhat divisive among fans, we can all agree that it looks like we’ll have our hearts broken all over again. Varric was one returning character that was particularly focused on, as he leaves on his own to confront Solus while the player takes the rest of the team to fight off demons.

During Varric’s encounter with Solus, the latter breaks the former’s beloved crossbow Bianca, and all the death and negativity surrounding Varric has fans convinced that BioWare is getting ready to bump off one of Dragon Age’s oldest veterans (thanksKotaku). Not only is he doing the gruff veteran trope, taking on the responsibility of a group of newcomers, but he’s also saying some things which make fans believe he might not survive his encounter with the Dread Wolf.

Dragon Age Fans Think The Veilguard Is Going To Bump Off Varric

For starters, many fans are picking up certain things that Varric is saying as proof BioWare is going to take him out, though you can’t really interpret “Rook, look after the team for me” as anything but the last wishes of a man that knows he’s walking to his death. There’s also the fact that Varric isn’t even a full-on companion in the game, meaning BioWare has given themselves enough to work with for a potential death.

Add all this to the fact that the gameplay trailer appears to have been chopped and changed a bit for showcase purposes, and fans think BioWare is trying to sneakily hide a Varric death from us. We’ve picked up on all the cues though, as fans across social media are now praying that our lovable scoundrel actually manages to keep his head for Dragon Age 5.
