I play a lot ofFortnite. I might be in my late twenties, but I still griddy with the best of them as a proud founding member of the Fortnite Crew. However, the majority of my time on the Battle Bus has been spent on consoles. My skills can only be displayed with a PS5 controller in hand and a steady framerate that isn’t dictated by my so-so gaming PC.

But thenRazercame knocking on my door and presented an opportunity to change that. It will soon be releasing a brand-new Fortnite collection as part of an official collaboration withEpic Games, which takes four of their existing products and gives them a Fortnite makeover.

What Is The Razer Fortnite Collection?

As someone who has been playing on their PC more and more these days, I decided to take up this offer. The results were mixed, but it’s all about the journey, not the destination. Razer has done collaborations in the past with franchises likeOverwatchandStar Wars, but this feels like the first time the company has gone this hard on a line of products that focuses on a very specific theme.

Each item in the collection also comes with a code for a unique in-game item such as Pickaxes and Gliders, which will no doubt become very rare items in years to come.

Razer Fortnite Mouse

The Fortnite Collection features four existing products kitted out with the Battle Bus colour scheme and aesthetic designed to mimic Fortnite’s classic look, since it’d be pretty hard to release several different peripherals to match the ideas of each season. So what you’ve got here is a blue, yellow, and grey motif with a load of familiar iconography found on the Battle Bus itself. If Peely was a gamer, he’d use these.

As for the products themselves, here’s what’s available:

How Does The Razer Fortnite Collection Look And Feel?

So the obvious elephant in the room here are the prices, which are pretty standard for Razer but will still be a premium for the majority of gamers. You are paying for the unique aesthetic and brand name here, alongside the quality of each product which, after a couple of weeks spent putting them through their paces, feels pretty solid.

The Deathadder V3 Pro is way lighter than I’m used to when it comes to gaming mice, as normally I prefer chunkier models that track across my desk and have a number of different inputs, but this model has hardly any and is so lightweight it feels like it’s made of feathers. All you have is a single button on the back to turn it on or off and change the default DPI settings. I did have a consistent issue of it failing to remain connected though, which isn’t ideal in the middle of a tense firefight.

Razer Fortnite Mousepad

Many of these products already exist and have simply been Fortnited (that’s a word now, get used to it) so this piece is a general overview of the collection and my experience rather than a detailed technical verdict.

The Razer Blackwidow V4 X is a beast of a mechanical keyboard that is a little quieter than other models on the market, ushering out a minute clickety clack with switches that allow my hands to travel as swiftly across the keys as I do across Tilted Towers and register inputs with grace in pursuit of a well-deserved Vic Roy.

Razer Fortnite Headset

You’ll also find several macro keys on the far left that you can register to specific items in your inventory or certain commands, but I found Fortnite is limited enough in the things you’ll be doing in the moment that these are better in other competitive genres. It’s a big, fully-featured keyboard, with the Fortnite decals spread across the entire body.

Part of me wishes that some of these were embossed rather than fanciful stickers, since I’d have loved to run my hands across the black and yellow construction tape or feel the lines of the llama mascot protruding from the device. My favourite application of the theme is found over on the Kraken V3 X headset, where dynamic RGB lighting on the surface of each ear cup is embossed with a llama silhouette that shifts and changes depending on what settings you’ve applied using Razer Chroma. There’s a lot of customisation to be done here, but for the most part it won’t override the Fortnite theming found across the entire collection.

Razer Fortnite Llama Keycap

I didn’t just play Fortnite either, I dabbled in Overwatch 2, Risk of Rain 2, and a spot of Doom Eternal, and the tech worked just as well as it did in Epic Games’ battle royale.

Finally, you have the Goliathus Extended Chroma Gaming Mousepad, which is a sprawling mat designed to house every peripheral you plan to use, including the keyboard and mouse. It is also the most deliberately designed part of the collection thanks to a spray-painted llama and the words ‘Fortnite’ found directly beneath it.

It isn’t subtle, and feels like a side panel of the Battle Bus has been torn off and reconditioned into some impromptu gamer gear. A strip of LED lights spreads around the edge and changes colour constantly by default, but like so many Razer products, can be customised to your liking. If you’re anything like me, you’ll turn it into a rainbow to celebrate Pride. Yes, I’m fruityandI play Fortnite. What’s not to love?

But Jade, Did It Help You Get A Victory Royale?

This is the part where I’d love to say, “Well yes of course it did, I currently have a crown with ten wins with no signs of slowing”, but that would make me a big fat liar. What I will say is that playing Fortnite on PC seriously for the first time has been a great learning experience. It also reminded me how different the skill ceiling can be as I try to pull off headshots with a mouse and keyboard while figuring out how things I’d grown so accustomed to on controller are suddenly so different in this arena.

I wish having a laundry list of Fortnite-themed peripherals would provide me with some new source of energy that only I could gain access to because of my sick gamer arsenal, but that isn’t how life (nor these products) work. They are attractive enough spins on existing devices I was surprisingly giddy to play around with and critique, even if I wish the aesthetic had been taken further than a Battle Bus theming across all four of them.

The Razer Fortnite Collection is likely going to be for hardcore players on PC or a younger and incredibly spoiled person whose parents are kitting them out with their very first setup. You’ll want to pick it up for the theming, the rare items, or as an excuse to let yourself loose in the Razer ecosystem. If you want to pick them up for yourself, they’re available today.
