Call Of Duty Black Ops 6 Won't Have Carry Forward In Multiplayer, Says Treyarch

Over the past few years,Call of Duty has become a sort of metaverse. While it’s notFortnitelevels of Goku squaring off against The Weeknd and Peter Griffin, it is still a melting pot of pop culture. In the past,Call of Dutyhas had collaborations with Attack on Titan, The Boys and famous athletes like Lionel Messi. Even right now,there is a collab with Gundam.

And like Fortnite, none of those collaborations are free, and players have spent a pretty penny to buy them. Beginning with Modern Warfare 3,Activision announced the “Carry Forward” program, where purchased Operator Skins transferred from Modern Warfare 2 to 3. Unfortunately, that won’t be happeningwhen Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches in the fall.

Ina post on the Call of Duty Blog following the full Black Ops 6 reveal, Treyarch revealed why “Carry Forward” won’t be implemented. In it, the studio wrote:

We want to make sure that everybody starts fresh, together, as we move into an all-new experience with the launch ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Allowing everyone to experience theBlack Opsuniverse the way it’s meant to be played, learning the era-specific weapons and gear, learning the gameplay innovations like Omnimovement, and keeping that signatureBlack Opsstyle is important.

Therefore,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® IIandModern Warfare IIIcontent will not carry forward to theBlack Ops 6Premium experience.

Skins Will Transfer To Warzone, Though That Was Expected

At a surface level, Treyarch’s rationale makes sense. Black Ops 6 is set in the 1990s against the backdrop of the real-life Gulf War. Its weapons will be era related, and its multiplayer maps will be in locales of decades past. And so, having the Armored Titan in a Gulf War-era multiplayer stylistically doesn’t make sense.

At the same time, though, these purchases aren’t cheap, and players can’t be blamed for thinking that they will transfer from one game to the next. After all, the program framework does exist. It’s not a made-up construct. What’s more is that Treyarch has saidthat the preorder Frank Woods operator skin will transfer over. That skin is currently available for Modern Warfare 3 players if they preorder Black Ops 6. Based off that, it would appear that skins will be a thing at some point in Black Ops 6.

As expected, any purchased skins from pastCall of Dutytitles will transfer intoWarzone. Given that Warzone acts as a separate mode and is also free to play, any other decision would be shocking. Still, it’s an unfortunate turn of events for hardcore players, especially as the sale of skin bundles likely won’t stop anytime soon, even if they don’t transfer over.
