Summary
Microsofthas reportedly decided that 2024’sCall of Duty(which is widely believed to be a new Black Ops game) will launch onXbox Game Pass.
Unarguably the biggest bit of gaming news to happen over the past decade has beenMicrosoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. Although thepurchase was finalised towards the end of last year, it was in the works for a while, mostly because of how against the acquisition Sony was.The main reason for this was Call of Duty, which PlayStation feared would be made exclusive.
Xbox and PlayStation eventually reached an agreementwhen it comes to Call of Duty releasing on other platforms but even with that decided, there were still a lot of questions about what was going to be done with 2024’s COD. A few weeks ago,it was reported that Xbox still wasn’t sure if it’d bring one of the most important parts of its acquisition to Xbox Game Pass, but it seems a decision has been made.
Call Of Duty 2024 Will Reportedly Come To Xbox Game Pass
Earlier today,The Wall Street Journal released an article titled, “Microsoft Plans Boldest Games Bet Since Activision Deal, Changing How ‘Call of Duty’ Is Sold”, which goes into detail about Xbox’s plans for this year’s Call of Duty game. As the title suggests, the article dives into how Microsoft is changing how Call of Duty will be sold, something it suggests is going to be done through Xbox Game Pass.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Microsoft has officially decided to release this year’s Call of Duty game on Xbox Game Pass when it launches, something that it’s been considering for quite some time. That makes sense considering how much it might potentially impact sales on its own platform, as well as onPlayStation, if it can be accessed through Game Pass.
“Microsoft plans a major shakeup of its videogame sales strategy by releasing the coming installment of Call of Duty to its subscription service instead of the longtime, lucrative approach of only selling it a la carte.”
Xbox hasn’t officially announced that’s going to be the plan, butconsidering we know it’s going to be shown off at this year’s Xbox Showcase next month, it likely won’t be long until it’s confirmed. We don’t yet know for sure what the next Call of Duty game is going to be,but it’s been rumoured for a while to be a new Black Ops title from Treyarch centred around the Gulf War.
