Here, we’ll give you tips and tricks for how to best use items while playing Disney Lorcana. Every match is different, but with the right strategy and a bit of luck, you can enjoy the game that much more.
Play Items For Free
Designing your deck around items is a good idea if you have the means toplay them well. When possible, aim toplay items for free. You’ll save ink forplaying actions and characters– or activating the abilities an item has.
Characters like Maurice, World-Famous Inventor, allow you topay less for itemswhenever he quests. Items that costless than two inkcan be played for free! Getting items on the board, like Pawpsicle, without spending ink on them gives youmore options per turn.
Play Multiple Items
You can havemultiple items in playat a time, and this often works in your favor. Fromhealing items to lore seeking items, the more the merrier. Having multiple items in play allows you todo more each turn, bringing you closer tocontrolling the board and securing victory.
If you draw multiple items, find a way toplay them as soon as possible. Items don’t need a turn to dry (unlike characters do), so they canbe used immediately. The more items you have, the more actions you can take.
Heal Your Characters
Characters arelikely to take damagewhen they are exerted, so having items on hand andready to healthem in a huge benefit. Even if you only havea single dinglehopper in play, it can be the difference betweenkeeping a character in play or banishing themto the discard pile.
You can healbefore or after your characters' questor challenge. Keep an eye on them to determine the best time to do this!
While there arecharacters that can heal, sometimes it’s better tohave them quest or challenge. With healing items in play, you can buy yourselfextra lore or challenge opposing charactersand banish them while stillremoving damage from your own characters.
Utilize Locations
Locations matter more than you’d think when it comes to items. You canpay less for items, and when paired with characters like Maurice, World-Famous Inventor, you can play items up to a cost of three for free.
Belle’s House is greatfor decks focused on items, and theadditional reduction in costcan allow you toplay more items per turn.
Initiate Card Search
Another benefit to items issearching through your deckfor more cards. This allows you tofine-tune your deckand put cards you don’t need right away on the bottom of the deck or in the discard pile.
You may need tospend ink to draw cards or searchthrough your deck, but it’s worth it.
Card draw mechanicsare also useful in all Lorcana games. Whether you’re playingagainst one other playeror teaming up to take down Ursula inan Illumineer’s quest, everyone is grateful for card draw. With the right items, you may continuallyfilter through your deckfor the cards you need.
Ink Useless Items
When in doubt,turn your items into ink. While it can be argued that no item is completely useless, sometimes youdraw an item that you can’t useright away. In these cases, it’s better to justink the cardand move on.
If you only have one copy of an item in your deck, you may want to hold onto it instead of ink it.
Ink can besaved or spent on other cards, and depending on how the board looks, you may want toplay a character or song insteadof an item. Try toplan ahead and ink itemsthat aren’t worth playing for several turns.
Focus On Synergy
Some cardswork better togetherthan others, and that’s expected. The Croquet Mallet can bebanished to grant Rushto different characters – allowing them to challenge the turn they are played. Powerful characters that normally lack this ability can be made even more useful.
Other cards grant Resist or allow you to put cards into your inkwell.Dinner Bell works well with characters that have high willpower, as you’ll draw more cards the more damage they take. Examine thepairings you can create between characters, items, and locationsto maximize efficiency and improve your deck.
Gain Additional Lore
Items can beused to gain lore, which ensures that you continually make your way towards the finish line even if you don’t have any characters in play.
Since the overall goal is toobtain 20 lore to win, gaining additional lore with items prevents your opponent from easily stopping you in your tracks. Without cards to specifically banish items, there’snothing they can do once you play your hand.
