Summary

As you exploreLightyear Frontier, there are plenty of regions to explore. Each of them holds valuable resources you can use to further develop your farm and enjoy life alone on a distant planet. However, despite their wonder, some are better than others. We set out to survey the land and rank each area based on its aesthetic appeal and resource availability.

From the moment you enter the Meadows, you’re surrounded with fresh flora and fauna. There’s so much to see and do, and you have all the time in the world to do it. Here, we’ve ranked each region so you’re able to enjoy the scenery.

8Edge Cliffs

The Edge Cliffs are a breathtaking sight, though it will take time to unlock the upgrades required to restore it. Filled with vibrant flora and cheerful fauna, you may roam this region at your leisure and collect plenty of resources. You’ll find copper here, along with Caroot seeds you can plant on your farm.

The downside is that this region is smaller than the rest and has an odd layout. Winding slopes and the awkward placement of resources make it easy to trip when running with the mech. You may have to hop out and flip it over often but at least you’ll have lovely surroundings while doing so.

7Stepstone Peak

The Stepstone Peaks offer more resources, edging along the cliffs of the mainland. There are plenty of trees that create a wooded path, and the rocky cliffs provide the perfect opportunity to climb and find hidden treasures. The stunning view of the sea and the landscapes in the distance can’t be beat.

However, this region is comparatively small and acts as a bridge between the two adjacent regions. Despite its offerings, the mid-to-late game access makes it underwhelming when you finally restore it to its former glory.

6Pine Heights

The Pine Heights are likely one of the first areas you’ll restore, and the impressive dam that lines its borders is no small technological feat. This region harbors your first real resources and continues to be a valuable asset throughout your time on the planet. The winding wooded paths and plentiful resources are varied and cover a decent portion of the map.

You’ll keep coming back to the Pine Heights for a steady supply of wood, iron, coal, and red crystals. There’s plenty to see and explore here, and you may find yourself getting lost while trying to get around the dam. Spoiler alert: you can’t just yet.

5The Meadows

The Meadows are the first and most expansive region you’ll encounter. This wide and warm area highlights all the possibilities the planet offers. While it only holds the starting resources you’ll need, you’ll never stop coming back here. With large open fields and easy access to most other regions, this is by far the best place to set up your Homestead.

The wildlife you encounter here is limited, but the variety showcases the best that Lightyear Frontier has to offer. You’ll find a great view of skyline in every direction, along with choice glimpses of the other regions.

4Mountainside Coast

Mountainside Cliffs encompass everything from the slopes of the mounts to the salty shorelines below. There are caves to delve into and plenty of resources to gather. This mid-to-late-game region offers a variety of useful resources you’ll keep coming back for. It also offers access to Tornado Rock Isle, after you restore access to the other regions.

The open and expansive area provides unique views and a comforting atmosphere, but the work it takes to unlock this region may take away from the rewards. However, it still holds plenty of value as an end-game region.

3Yellow Forest

The Yellow Forest is by far one of the best regions to unlock. Not only does it offer a wide and varied selection of resources, but it provides the opportunity to build a radio tower to connect with others in the galaxy. There are multiple entrances to this region and plenty of ways to get lost in the twisting paths and heavily-wooded areas.

Not to mention that it’s the most unique-looking of all the regions due to the exclusive and vibrant yellow trees. The warm color palette offers a change in scenery that can only be found here.

2Lowland Plains

The Lowland Plains overlook showcases the natural beauty of the land and the resources primed for the taking. The curving river that runs through it leads to plentiful late-game resources you’re able to use to upgrade your Homestead and build better storage and technology. The abundance of the rare pink trees is also a plus.

There’s also a large and unique section hidden towards the back where you’re able to collect artifacts, engaging you both in and out of the mech suit. You’ll spend plenty of time trying to reach this region to restore it, and it’s well worth the effort.

1Tornado Rock Isle

This region is the most exclusive, as it’s only accessible after you restore every other region – and for good reason. Tornado Rock Isle combines the best geographical features from every region all into one while also including end-game resources only found here. Some may not even reach this region once they complete the main story, as it appears inaccessible at first glance.

Riding the waves to the shores of the isle takes a bit of practice, but it’s worth exploring these forgotten shores to collect the newest (and final) resources available in the game. The view is absolutely stunning, by the way.
