Summary

There’s a lot you can do with junk inFallout 4. Whether it’s upgrading your weapons and armor through the Armorer and Gun Nut perks, building up a new settlement’s defenses and logistics, or saving some caps by doming unlucky raiders in the head with bowling pins flying out of a Junk Jet, you’ve got options.

While you can buy all kinds of odds and ends from various NPC merchants, there’s something rewarding about becoming a wasteland scrapper and making due with what you’ve got; better for the environment, too. If you don’t know where you should start looking, check out these junk-filled locations.

8Wattz Consumer Electronics

Fans, Typewriters, And Pre-War Money Galore

If you’re in the market for gears, screws, springs, aluminum, steel, and other industrial components, or a big stack of pre-war cash for those of you with light pockets, make your way to Wattz Consumer Electronics, a building located northeast of Cambridge Police Station.

While you should be able to find what you need by perusing old shelves and forcing your way into a valuable room secured by an Expert level lock,we have a handy scrapping guideif you’re looking to get more out of your scrap runs.

7Sanctuary Root Cellar

A Quick And Easy Way To Get Lots Of Gold Early

The old Root Cellar, found just a couple houses east of where your character used to live before the bombs started dropping, could arguably be called a cult classic looting spot for every brand-new character looking to hit the ground running and make a few hundred caps early on.

While there’s a nice array of junk in there, make sure you grab all three gold bars near the safe. Even if you only scrap one bar, you’ll get ten units of gold, which is incredibly useful for high tier energy weapon modifications.

6The Yangtze

The People’s Liberation Army Sure Came Prepared

If you decided to take a dip in the ocean off the eastern coast of the Commonwealth, you might’ve run into something peculiar: a pre-war nuclear submarine called the Yangtze, originally operated by members of the People’s Liberation Army.

While it’s certainly a cool, secretlocation that tells a story, the Yangtze is also chock-full of tools, weapons, and junk you can scoop up and scrap to your heart’s content. Make sure you’re prepared to fight off an entire, ghoulified crew, though, and don’t stay near the reactor for too long.

5Decrepit Factory

Circuitry And Other, Military Grade Goodies

If you’re willing to brave the Glowing Sea and make your way to the Decrepit Factory, found just southeast of the Crater of Atom, you’ll be rewarded with a variety of high-tech goodies, including Enhanced Targeting Cards, Sensor Modules, and Biometric Scanners.

When broken down, these items give a ton of circuitry, a rare crafting material used in high-tier weapon modifications, defensive turrets, and useful electronicsthat your settlers will love. Although, if you’re making the teleporter to get inside the Institute, ensure you hang on to that Biometric Scanner.

4Abandoned Shack

When In Doubt, Look For Hidden Government Facilities

The Abandoned Shack, found on the western edge of the Glowing Sea, is really just a facade built to hide a secret, pre-war intelligence center and listening post in plain sight. Despite being somewhat difficult to find and get to, the silver lining is it’s remained largely untouched.

From cigarette cartons, dusty globes, and typewriters, to a myriad of tools, office fans, and pristine-looking cameras, there’s plenty of scrap to discover and mull over after you’ve found the cool stuff, like a suit of power armor or some mini-nukes.

3Acadia

Synths Need Lots Of Junk To Fix Themselves

If you own the Far Harbor DLC, you’ll quickly hear of a place called Acadia, a refuge for free-thinking Synths who fled The Institute and put their trust in a leader named DiMA, located southwest of Far Harbor towards the middle of the island.

The synths at Acadia have a lot to repair and maintain, including themselves, and consequently, that means they have plenty of junk. While you should check every nook and cranny, the bottom floor is where the good stuff is at. If the Acadians don’t trust you yet, you can always hack a terminal or pick some locks instead.

2The Prydwen

Well… They Are Obsessed With Technology, After All

After you neutralize Kellogg and make your way outside of Fort Hagen, you’ll see the Prydwen make its grand debut. If you get on the Brotherhood of Steel’s good side, and ascend to the rank of Knight, you’ll have free rein over almost every resource on their air ship.

While the sheer degree of junk inside the Prydwen is too much to list, you’ll quickly discover virtually every crafting material known to the Commonwealth up there, along with an impressive array of weapons, Chems, ammo, and other goods just waiting to be nabbed.

1The Institute

It’s Hard To Call It Junk When It’s In Such Pristine Condition

While you’ll only be able to access The Institute by progressing through the main storyline and eventually teleporting there, once you’re in, you’ll be swimming in an ocean of ceramics, aluminum, steel, copper, glass, and plenty of other crafting materials.

This is all thanks to the boatload of pristine medical and laboratory equipment that scientists and other staff at The Institute make use of, including but not limited to microscopes, test tubes, sensors, adapters, tweezers, and cameras. Keep in mind, you don’t have to side with this faction to nab their stuff; just play nice at first.
