Summary

Resources are the lifeline of survival games, and Abiotic Factor takes this to the next level. You are in dire need of materials if you want to do anything, but the world is your oyster and you may salvage practically anything in GATE and its neighbouring realms.

You will eventually require fewer resources as you progress, but certain sections require more items if you want to keep the story going. Every area has its distinct requirements, but there are quite a few materials you will want to stock up on first. Farm these in the early stages of the game so you can have a smoother experience crafting all you need as you level up.

These materials are the ones you will generally make use of in different applications. Everything else really depends on your play style, pace, number of players, and priorities.

8Cloth Scrap

Sweet, sweet, cloth. May it ever be abundant in your playthrough.

It’s not very difficult to farm cloth scraps in the game, but its common nature doesn’t make it any less essential. Collect as much as you can and reap the rewards of having endless supplies for bandages and capture nets. You can never have too many of those.

Even if you’re well-stocked with those items, you will find cloth scraps useful in more complicated crafting recipes. They are also necessary to create a toilet, bed, and basic shield.

7Clean Water

Thirst is a constant concern in your journey, so you should stock up on clean water right away. A purifying filter is unlocked later in the game, but it’s a long time before you get it. Because untainted water can be so hard to come by, you should get any filled water dispensers you come across and bring them back to your base.

Additionally, you will want to unlock cooking stoves right away so you can purify dirty water. This process gives you only about a fourth of the dirty water you collect, so you’ll want to have multiple pots boiling at once.

A good place to farm water for purifying is the fountain in the main hub, as it has nearby outlets that you may plug multiple purifying stations into.

6Duct Tape

Duct tape is a powerful tool for all your crafting needs. It’s an ingredient for building the Repair and Salvage station, a makeshift shiv, your first shield, and basic armor. For the first few ‘stages’ in the game, this is a godsend.

It’s especially useful to have tons in your possession as you may use them to repair equipped gear regardless of what materials they are made of. When you’re far from the nearest base and need to keep your protective equipment intact, duct tape will save the day.

5Coil

It may feel like a shame to destroy all those beautiful monitors, but break them anyway so you can farm coils from the start. You need this to create a Repair and Salvage station and a heater, which will be necessary for those cold nights.

You also need this to build a portable stove and a makeshift battery. The battery is necessary if you want to continue crafting when the power goes out. Plus, you can use coils to create plug strips and maximize every outlet. With a strip, you can connect multiple electricity-based utilities in the same area.

You can extend the cable from an outlet to distant stations by using routers. You can connect this using tech scraps and looking at the part in the wall you want to route.

4Metal Scrap

you may get metal scrap as is, but you can also farm it by dismantling metal vents. If you have the salvaging station unlocked, you can also get it from items that use metal materials.

These scraps will be necessary for battery power and walkie-talkies. If you want to have tons of soups and dishes ready, metal scraps can also be used to create pots and pans. If you find yourself in combat situations often, metal scraps will also be useful in repairing your armor and weapons.

3Tech Scrap

As the name implies, tech scraps are necessary for creating tech. In a sci-fi survival game, it’s a given that this will be your means to creating wondrous innovations. One of the most useful inventions you’re able to craft with tech scraps is the hacker, which gives you access to barred locations with keypad locks.

Crucial items like the computation brick, circuit board, and industrial battery also require the use of tech scraps to craft. Essentially, this is the scrap you want to hoard if you are planning on building numerous electronic devices.

2Metal Pipe

Metal pipes are useful from start to finish. Early on, you will often use them in creating makeshift tools. They are also components in the creation of flashlights, crafting benches, and screwdrivers. Later in the game, you will need them for other stations and items like the vacuum and binoculars.

If you ever need metal scraps (and you will need them at one point or another), you can also use metal pipes and salvage them. Good-to-have items made with this include the platform cart, which you can use for hauling heavy items around, and the wall torch to provide light without needing an outlet.

1Plastic Scrap

Early in your trek across GATE facilities, you will need plastic scrap quite often. It’s good to farm this before you progress too far since you’ll want to save those areas until you are at a point where plastic scrap is practically useless.

The farther into the game you get, the less you’ll need plastic scraps. Still, it’s an extremely helpfulresource for beginnersbefore you unlock more complex recipes. The biggest uses will be for water bottles, storage crates, and portable stoves. Having materials to keep food handy is useful not only in your own survival but alsoif you want to feed Jerome.
