When taking your first steps into the world ofEiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, it’s dangerous to go alone. Along your journey, you will meet a cast of colorful characters to recruit that all have their own strengths and weaknesses, making each recruit unique. Early on in the game, however, your options are limited, and a few characters can be easily missed.
While it is possible to recruit characters you might have missed later on in the mid and late game, some of these early characters can be incredibly useful to pick up. Don’t miss out on your chance to augment your early-game battle party or castle staff with these choices.

10Mellore
Fighting For Love And Justice
With the power of love and justice on your side, how could you ever stand to lose? While Mellore’s magical girl powers are questionable at best, her battle powers are not. This young girl can pack a serious magical punch early on and is a great pick-up early on.
She is one of the earliest long-range units you can snag and one of the few that are magically based. The even better part is she isn’t easy to miss, and as long as you go out of your way to do her side quest, you can recruit her to your army in no time.

9Kuroto
The Stalwart Hunter
Another ranged unit, Kuroto prefers to attack with a crossbow instead of magical powers from your rear line in battle. His crossbow attacks are actually very potent as well, doing large amounts of damage per hit, especially if the enemy is flying.
Kuroto’s recruitment is also relatively simple, requiring you to go out and slay three wild boars to prove your worth as a “hunter” to him. The boars are located in the same area that Mellore’s side quest takes place as well,so you can tackle both at the same time for more efficiency.

8Yume
Say Hello To My Little Friend
Yume and her “friend” Friend (yes, that is actually its name) can be enlisted into your forces early on in the game’s story. The two of them work together to pummel foes with heavy-hitting attacks, equipped with a decent HP and defense stat to boot.
One of the unique things about Yume and Friend is that they actually take up two party member slots in your battle team due to their large size. Because of this, they can be very strong early on, but your mileage may vary when you leave the early game for the mid-game.

7Yusuke
The Former Delinquent
Our favorite pink-wearing desperado is looking to make a name for himself and change his life around, and he’ll beat up anyone who gets in his way of doing just that. He is a great grapple character that can do huge amounts of damage and is easy to recruit.
Yusuke has a unique battle command that allows him to spend up to two turns charging his power, which he can then unleash for huge damage. This mechanic, plus his overall good stats, makes him a very strong character even into the late game, so don’t forget to pick this guy up.

6Iugo
The Wandering Samurai
Iugo is someone who has everything you’re looking for in a damage dealer for the early game: he hits hard and has decent defenses and HP to boot. He also comes with a unique rune skill that grows in power the more SP you have when you activate it, making him a great boss killer.
You will need to be on the lookout for him because he can be a bit hard to find, even though he is recruitable very early on. Make sure to visit the tavern on the east side of Eltisweiss before the war starts, or it will be quite a while before you’re able to pick him up.

5Francesca
A Foul-Mouthed Healer
Who doesn’t love to receive verbal abuse when they’re bleeding out? Francesca might have one of the filthiest mouths in the game, but her heart runs pure with the power of care and healing… and rage, most likely.
She can be recruited pretty early on and has a high MP stat to go along with her rune of water magic that gives her access to very useful healing spells. She also does blunt damage, which can damage enemy armor, making her multi-purposed.

4Huang
Gone Fishin'
While technically not recruitable until the mid-game, you can actually encounter Huang near the beginning of the game. If you head to Arenside sometime before going to Nowa’s hometown, you can find him there.
Meeting him early has some perks. For one thing, it introduces him to you, so you can be on the lookout for him later, but more importantly, he will give you a bamboo rod and unlock the fishing minigame for you. Incidentally, finding a certain fish through fishing is the only way to recruit him.

3Wyler
An Overprotective Brother
Once you have unlocked your castle, the game starts to feel grander and more open.Among the new batch of recruits for your caste staff and army, Wyler is a great pick-up for his strong attacks and hero combo.
Another ranged unit, Wyler makes use of his bow to shoot at enemies from afar and deal increased damage to flying monsters. He also joins the team as part of a set, making him a two-for-one special.

2Marin
The Little Sister Who Could
The other half of the Wyler two-for-one special is his little sister, Marin. In fact, she might be an even better addition than her older brother. Marin is a sort of quasi-herbalist and has a rune skill that allows her to heal party members for small amounts of HP for free.
She also has access to a strong earth magic standard attack and a great hero combo with her older brother, Wyler. The combo provides a modest eal to all allies while doing throw damage to one enemy. A great offensive and defensive skill for just one SP.

1Gieran
The Mage In The Woods
A character you definitely don’t want to miss is the mage Gieran, found in the eastern part of the Greatwood. He boasts very powerful magic attacks and also has a very high MP total to back up his heavy-hitting casting.
When you meet him, he tells you that he is researching the Rune of Conversion and will require you to acquire one for him if you wish him to join you. When you defeat the boss of the Greatwood, you will obtain that very rune. Return to Gieran and deliver it to him and he will join you right then and there.
