Summary

Fallout 4already gave you the ultimate gift when it introduced you to a dog buddy pretty much right out of the gate. Dogmeat will follow you loyally, fight anybody that looks at you weirdly, and give you random junk that made him think of you. Those are the ideal best friend attributes right there.

So what better way to thank Dogmeat for his service than to make sure he’s decked out in the slickest threads you can find? While the equipment you can give him doesn’t actually change his stats (aside from augmenting his carry weight a bit), a good look is its own reward. So have some fun mixing and matching your doggy apparel.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing a dog helmet

8Dog Helmet

If you want your pal Dogmeat to look intimidating and really channel that Dr. Doom vibe, look no further than the dog helmet. Slip it on that cute little head, and he’ll be all set for ripping apart some mole rats or raiders, at least cosmetically.

The only real downside is that you usually have to defeat enemy dogs to get these helmets, and they’re all just good boys and girls doing their jobs. But if you do happen to find one, it’s well worth giving Dogmeat a shiny metal glow-up.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing a reinforced dog collar

7Reinforced Dog Collar

Every version of Dogmeatis his own free man, and as such, it would be a disservice to fit him with a regular old collar like the one you see helpless dog owners hold onto for dear life as their husky bounds after a plastic bag she thought was a squirrel. But the reinforced dog collar is its own beast.

Not some piece of leather symbolizing a leashed animal, this collar symbolizes a battle that’s about to be much shorter. With bolts sticking out the sides like spikes, it feels oddly more practical than the similar spiked dog collar. But a bolt to the head as Dogmeat goes for the jugular will be just as devastating.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing a skull bandana

6Skull Bandana

This is about as close to cosplay as Dogmeat will get, because a skull bandana is very much the opposite of the vibe that perfect little pupper gives off. Of course, he’s merciless in battle, but it’s not his fault those bad guys are attacking his best friend.

The skull bandana just looks cool on Dogmeat. That’s it. He’s a precious angel who deserves the world, but he’ll annihilate anything that threatens what he holds dear. It’s like putting a leather jacket on Hello Kitty. Dissonant, but it oddly works.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing a leopard print bandana

5Leopard Print Bandana

Look, it’s hard to really slay with your look out in the Commonwealth if you actually want to survive your travels. Sometimes, you have to make compromises. So why not let your dog do the talking?

Maybe you want to show off your wild side to impress Cait. Just slap this bandana with a suggestive leopard print onto Dogmeat and see if she gets the hint. Unfortunately, the hint might be that you’re a massive dork. But at least it looks good on the dog. Tiny victories.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing a Gunners green bandana

4Gunners Green Bandana

Not every piece of clothing needs to make a statement. Sometimes it can just mean you like green. If there’sone thing we know about Dogmeat, it’s that he looks good in a bandana, especially this color.

Just look at how the darker, mossy green works with his brown and beige coat. He can’t tell. He’s colorblind, and he can’t even see his own neck anyway. But he’s happy when you’re happy, and this color palate combined with the knowledge that you took out a bunch of Gunners to get it is sure to do that much.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing light dog armor

3Light Dog Armor

From a roleplaying perspective, the light dog armor is probably the best choice for Dogmeat. While equipment doesn’t have stats for him, playing the game as if it does can offer an interesting new perspective.

In this case, the armor theoretically offers protection without weighing down the poor pup, and looks like it allows a pretty full range of movement. Combine it with a helmet and reinforced collar for good measure, and baby, you’ve got a big metal stew going.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing heavy dog armor

2Heavy Dog Armor

Like the light dog armor, this big hunk of steel would definitely provide some nice protection if it had actual stats. But unlike the light armor, it clearly covers up a lot more surface area, which would come in handy when the bullets start spraying.

One fun aspect of the armors (as well as the reinforced dog collar) is their conspicuous handle on the back. It looks like you could use those to hold Dogmeat back while hyping him up before a battle, then let go and watch him zoom at a bandit like a fuzzy wind-up car with teeth.Fallout mod makers, take note.

Fallout 4 - Dogmeat wearing welding goggles

1Welding Goggles

Arguably the most adorable piece of gear Dogmeat can wear, the Welding Goggles are luckily commonplace out in the wasteland. You’ll find them on raiders, in shops, on other raiders, in chests, and did we mention they’re also on raiders?

Raiders in Fallout 4 seem to have convinced themselves that goggles make them look super cool and intimidating. Unfortunately, they were half right. Goggles make Dogmeat and only Dogmeat look super cool. Fashion doesn’t discriminate. It simply is.
