Summary
Details surrounding the nextBattlefieldgame have been relatively slim. Whether that’s by design or because the game is further off than we think, the fact of the matter is that not much is known about the franchise’s next entry. Indeed, after essentially releasing a new title on an every other year basis, there hasn’t been a new Battlefield game since 2021. Thedisastrous Battlefield 2042 stands as the last released Battlefield, but that could be changing relatively soon.
A new leak inReddit’s r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddithas provided some clarity on the next Battlefield title, including information on a potential campaign.According to a recent post, the game is being internally referred to as “Timeless Fields.” It’s labeled as an action-adventure/military-themed game, which Battlefield games are known to be. Finally, it is casting for a female special forces operator.
The details of the casting call for the operator named Rozonda are the following:
25 - 35, Slavic woman. Accent: Authentic Croatian, Bosnian, or Serbian. Special Forces Operator. Rozonda was always the outcast as the child of two different ethnic backgrounds in Croatia. A tactician of remarkable mental and physical courage. She commands respect and attention. Can be impatient and despises weakness. Fit, athletic, and able to move with a prop weapon easily. Required: Must speak Croatian And/or Bosnian and/or Serbian.
Fans Are Hoping This Casting Call Is For The Campaign
It’s important to note that the casting call does not explicitly mention a campaign, so there’s a chance that this character could be a specialist for multiplayer. That said, it seems unlikely that a multiplayer specialist would need to speak several languages, though stranger things have happened.
Still, fans are hopeful that the casting call provides some light onBattlefield returning to its single-player roots. That’s because, except forthe multiplayer-only Black Ops 4, Call of Dutyhas continued to put out single-player campaigns. Meanwhile, Battlefield has gone in a separate direction altogether.2042 ditched the single-player campaign, while both Battlefield V and Battlefield 1 opted for episodic missions called “War Stories.”
The “War Stories” were not only very short compared to other standard campaigns, but they also weren’t very involved either. In many ways, they served as extended tutorials for the game’s multiplayer functionality rather than a standalone story experience. For example, Battlefield 1’s War Stories featured missions involving a tanker and a fighter pilot, both landmark vehicles in the multiplayer.
With that in mind,Battlefield Hardline is the last true “traditional” campaign. Hardline did not take place in a military setting, instead opting to focus on elements of crime and policing. Therefore, the last full-length military campaign was in 2013’s Battlefield 4. That fourth title served as a launch title for the PS4 and Xbox One. In other words, it’s been a minute since there’s been a true campaign. Here’s hoping that changes in Battlefield 7 or whatever it ends up being called.
