Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3has been picking up various awards pretty consistently over the past few months, havingswept The Game Awards and countless other ceremonies. With only the BAFTAs being the last major awards show left, many were hoping for yet another strong showing for developer Larian Studios. Expectedly, Baldur’s Gate 3 has done pretty well, taking home the grand prize for Best Game.
Up against the likes ofAlan Wake 2,Super Mario Bros. Wonder,Dave the Diver,The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2(man, last year was great for games), Baldur’s Gate 3 managed to come out on top to earn yet another Game of the Year award, but Larian has also managed to snag a couple of other BAFTAs as well, which are the awards for Best Music, Narrative, and the coveted Player’s Choice award.
While it was expected that Baldur’s Gate 3 would come out on top, it’s worth noting that the BAFTAs does like to throw up a surprise every now and then. Even discounting the surprise winners in this year’s show,it was Vampire Survivors that actually won the award for Best game last year, beating the likes ofGod of War: RagnarokandElden Ring, two titles that people thought were a shoo-in for the award.
Alan Wake 2 And Viewfinder Did Pretty Well Too
It wasn’t all Baldur’s Gate 3 though, as while it took home the most awards for a single game - and actor Andrew Wincott took home the award for best Supporting Role for his work as Raphael - several other big titles from 2023 did okay too. Alan Wake 2 has a pretty strong showing, managing to win the BAFTAs for Artistic Achievement and Audio Achievement, while indie titleViewfinderwon the awards for British Game and New Intellectual Property.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder picked up a couple of awards for best Multiplayer and Family game, while the likes of Hi-Fi Rush, Dave the Diver,Cyberpunk 2077, Tears of the Kingdom, andTchiaall picked up singular awards. Finally, in quite a surprising win - but not at all undeserved - Nadji Jeter picked up the BAFTA for best Performer In A Leading Role for his work as Miles Morales in Spider-Man 2. you may check out the full list of winners and nominees overat the BAFTAs official website.
