Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3’s huge patches are finally coming to an end, asLarianindicates that Patch 7 will be the final major update. With this patch, the studio says that the game will belong to the players, as they will be able to mod their saves with ease.

As reported byEurogamer, Larian CEO Swen Vincke confirmed this himself. Speaking at An Evening with Baldur’s Gate 3, hosted by BAFTA, Vincke agreed that Patch 7 will be a “final handover moment”, as Larian looks to its future projects.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Will Hand The Game Over To Fans

“One of the big things for us, and the one that we’re really working towards now, is the ability for players to mod [Baldur’s Gate 3] themselves,” says Vincke, referring to the mod support aspect of Patch 7. “And I think that will be the point where we’re going to say ‘Okay, now it’s yours fully’.”

He then clarifies that this won’t mean that all updates will cease, just the larger ones. “You will see the level of support diminished to really critical bug fixes,” he explains.

We already know thatPatch 7 is launching in September, so we have a while to go until Larian completely hands the game over to the playerbase. Patch 6 dropped in February, so this next patch is a long time in the making, requiring far more work than most patches. With this in mind, we can expect this farewell update to be huge, adding a range of new content likethe evil endings that Larian has already teased.

By the time it’s with us, it would have already been a year since Baldur’s Gate 3’s full launch, so that’s a pretty good time to turn the page. Larian has confirmed that it cancelled the DLC that it had in the worksbecause it wasn’t “coming from the heart”, so once Baldur’s Gate 3 support is over, it will be moving on toits next two games.

On this, Larian devs previously told TheGamer that they will need some time, saying, “Let us cook”.

“I’ve had a few conversations with people about this after Swen [Vincke, Larian CEO] did the GDC talk,” said Larian’s cinematic animations producer, Leah Caldwel. “A lot of people are understanding of us wanting to do that, and having more flexibility and allowing us to continue on within our kind of own universes.”

Right now, these games have not been revealed. It remains to be seen when Larian is ready to tell us what it’s been cooking.
