Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3, like many other cRPGs, is played through a top-down lens. Unless you use a controller, you’ll always fly above your party. But modders are letting us look at the Sword Coast from a brand-new perspective.
AvatarAvatarAvatar’s"Fake 1st Person Tweak"mod alters the camera so that you see the world through the eyes of your Tav. YouTuber Luvian Skyrim showed this off in a quick, 48-second video in which they explorethe Druid Grove. It looks a lot bigger when you’re in the thick of it.

Playing in first-person reveals a few graphical tricks. For instance, a lot of foliage is actually hovering above the ground, but you wouldn’t notice this from the usual camera perspective.
For the mod to work, you need Native Camera Tweaks and WASD Character Movement. The former adds the tools required to put you into the first-person perspective itself, and the latter makes it so that you can move around with the keyboard rather than having to point-and-click since it’d be a bit disorienting in first-person.
Baldur’s Gate 3 In First-Person
Given that the mod essentially places a camera above your Tav’s head to create the illusion of being in first-person, it can be a little glitchy. It’s also worth noting that using a controller changes the camera parameters, so you’ll need to tweak the settings to get it right again.
However, as shown in the video, you can quickly swap between first and third-person on the fly, so if you need to see more of your surroundings, you’re not pigeonholed into one viewpoint.
It’s probably not the best way to play considering you need a tactical view to manage your party in combat, but it’s handy fortaking screenshotsand looking more closely at the details Larian littered throughout the game.
