You can thanks toHornbird’s new mod, kind of. It adds the Owlin species fromDungeons & Dragons 5E, which is basically just a tall humanoid owlbear (the head is even the same).
Playing as an owlin grants you superior darkvision, the ability to fly right off the bat, and stealth proficiency. In the character customiser, you can alter your feather type and talon colours. Hornbird also plans to introduce a better body model, pygmy owlins (if you want to be a “smol bird”), and cleaner facial animations.
What Is An Owlin In Dungeons & Dragons?
So, owlins are not owlbears, even if they look pretty similar in the mod. They’re actually distantly related to the giant owls of Feywild, though they don’t have much in the way of magic proficiency. Most are stealthy and nocturnal.
There’s a surprising lack of lore on the owlin–there’s not even any naming conventions to follow–but that does give you more room to flesh out a backstory.
If owlins aren’t your thing and you want to become the actual owlbear cub itself… there is a mod for that.
ErinTanuki uploaded oneway back in October of last year, adding the option to wildshape into the cub as a level 2 druid, experiencing the world through its naive eyes. It even has custom abilities to match, letting you become the “Bestest boi in Faerun”.
Alternatively, you could download both mods and play co-op, one person wildshaping as the cub, the other as a protective owlin.
