Summary
Ubisoft has given us a closer look atAssassin’s Creed: Shadowswith an extended gameplay trailer during this year’s Ubisoft Forward showcase.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is looking like one of this year’s most anticipated games, bringing the series to the much-requested setting of Japan for the first time. Despite all thetiring “controversy” surrounding Yasuke, one of the game’s two protagonists, it was reported thatpre-orders for the title are very strong, despite us not seeing a sniff of gameplay yet, and Ubisoft has been teasing us with cryptic cluesabout the game’s map and where exactly in Japan it will be set.

Thankfully, Ubisoft has now given us that closer look that we’re all craving, revealing an extended gameplay demonstration for the title at this year’s Ubisoft Forward showcase following its appearance at the Xbox Game Showcase last Sunday. Before the trailer started, we got some exciting details about the game, including that it will allow players to freely swap between both protagonists outside of missions, and it will include dynamic seasons which will change naturally.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadow Gameplay Shown Off At Ubisoft Forward
To begin, the trailer focuses on Yasuke as he who rides into a small village on a mission to assassinate a man called Fujioka Jiro. Being an absolutely massive samurai, Yasuke dispenses with the stealth and immediately starts going ham on the local soldiers, showcasing the game’s combat system and some of his abilities. The fight ends with a swift decapitation and the introduction of the game’s second protagonist Naoe.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows gives you a choice between the two to storm a fortress, with the trailer going with Naoe to showcase the game’s stealth gameplay. In this section, we see Naoe use a grappling hook to swing off trees and zip to enemies for a quick assassination, clambering along rooftops in some classic Assassin’s Creed gameplay.
While Assassin’s Creed: Shadows looks great, it doesn’t help that the game is indulging in some less than popular industry practices. We know that it’s going to be monetized up to the eyeballs, as all Ubisoft games are, and there are even reports thatAssassin’s Creed: Shadows will include “mini battle passes” for cosmetic unlocks. We also know that the game willrequire an internet connection to install, making physical copies of the title next to worthless, so it’s definitely less than ideal despite it looking like a decent time.
