Summary
Did you just get your moddedFallout 4save up and running again? Well, enjoy it while it lasts - another update is coming on May 13, this Monday. The update is coming to all platforms and will make various “fixes and improvements”, specifically to the game’s graphics and performance.
This comes just a couple of weeks since the last update, which gave usthe long-awaited next-gen upgrade on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It also made some changes to PC - enough so thatmodded playthroughs were a messuntil mod authors updated their creations, something that we’ll seemingly go through all over again next week, albeit to a lesser extent.
The Next Fallout 4 Update Is Revealed
While modders will be frustrated, many would argue that Fallout 4’s next-gen build is in need of a patch. Ever since the update went live, players have reported glitches, bugs, and performance issues. In my own experience onPS5, I’ve experienced a few crashes - the first in the opening few minutes of the game - and a whole lot of animation and graphical bugs. It looks like enough players have reported similar findings, asBethesdaonce again prepares to roll out a patch for its eight-year-old RPG.
The actual rollout of the next-gen upgrade wasn’t without its fair share of issues too. Anyone who got their copy of Fallout 4 through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection had to wait a bit longer to access the update, as they were insteadstuck playing the last-gen release of the game. This waseventually amended, and the update should now be available to all.
But of course, some don’t want the upgrade at all. Many players turned off auto updates so their modded saves would be safe, but others who downloaded it and regretted it werelooking for ways to roll back to a previous patch.
This upcoming patch is almost definitely much smaller, so it shouldn’t be as disastrous for modders. However, we’ll have to wait and see if this further pushed back the release of the fan-made Fallout: London, which wasready to go until the upgrade was revealed. Since it runs on Fallout 4, its development is affected by any updates made to the base game, and we’restill waiting for a new release date.
