When you’re running around Pelican Town inStardew Valleytrying to make friends with your new neighbors (and maybe even fall in love), there are a handful of gifts you’re better off leaving at home when you head out to hand over this week’s presents.
While each townsperson does have their own set of gifts they like and love, everyone in town has a shared list of things the majority of them are not into receiving from you. There are a few universal dislikes in Stardew Valley that you should know aboutbeforegiving one costs you some friendship points!

Universally Disliked Gifts
Unless you’retrying to make enemiesin Stardew Valley, it’s best to avoid the list of items on theuniversal dislikeslist, which means that, on a broad spectrum, everyone in town will be unhappy with the item. Giving someone a disliked giftreduces your friendship by 20 points, which may be enough to cost a whole heart if you’re not careful.
For our guide, we’ve got a list of the universal dislikes in Stardew Valley, and in each category, we’ve also listed a few notableexceptionsto these preferences. If nothing is listed in the category, it’s a true universal dislike across the board.

Artifacts
For the most part, nobody in town wants to see theartifacts you’ve dug up in the worm spotsor from around the mines. On the whole, if you may donate it to the Museum towards its completion, it’s best if you give it to Gunther and let the townsfolk see it there instead.
Building Materials
You’ve got plenty of reasons to need items likewood, hardwood, stone, Clay, and Battery Packson the farm - keep them for yourself.

Bombs And Trinkets
Why so violent? The folks of Pelican Town, for the most part, aren’t into yourbombs. Additionally, as part of the mastery system in the version 1.6 update, working onyour Combat rewardsyou withtrinketsto make battle easier, but the townsfolk will be more impressed if you use them yourself.
Loves Parrot Egg
Fences And Flooring
If you can craft it to use on your farm for decoration and organization, it’s best to just leave it at home and let it do its job there. The locals are happy enough with their own decor, so leavecrafted fences and floor pathsin your own home.
Fish And Tackle
Will the locals be impressed byyour fishing skillswhen it comes to things like requests? Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean they want you to just walk up to them with a dead fish in hand. Best to use thoseraw fishyou’ve been catching in somecooking recipesinstead. They also don’t particularly care fortackle, either.

Geodes And Geode Minerals
Tying in with the advice to keep your artifacts in the Museum, any mineral that Clint breaks from a Geode for you, you’d better give that to Gunther for the Museum, too - the townsfolk aren’t too interested. They’re alsonot into the raw Geodes, either.

Seeds, Sprinklers, And Fertilizers
It’s awesome that you’ve found such a robust life of Farming for yourself in the Valley! But running a farm is dirty work, and your neighbors would love to see thefinishedproduct, but keepall seeds (including Tea Leaves and tree seeds),sprinklers, and fertilizersfor use back home.
