Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Dooris the second entry in the belovedPaper Mariofranchise. In this turn-based RPG, Mario must take on various foes on a quest to locate all the Crystal Stars - and rescue Princess Peach.
If you’ve got toChapter Oneof the game, you’ll eventually find yourself atShhwonk Fortress. You must clear this area out to find theSun and Moon stones, eventually unlocking the way to the first Crystal Star inHooktail Castle. There are some enemies littered throughout, but the final ‘boss’ of the area isn’t actually a fight:it’s a trivia quiz!

Getting To The Star Fortress
Once you’ve got toPetalburgand spoken to the mayor, all you need to do ishead to the right of townto begin the journey to theStar Fortress- and eventually,Shhwonk Fortress. You’ll encounter a few enemies on your way:Goombas,Spiky Goombas, Paragoombas, and Koopa Troopas.
After traversing this first area, you’ll find yourself in theMushroom Fortress. Defeat the twoBald Cleftsusing the POW Block stashed just outside the room, and you’re on to the next area.

After theMushroom Fortress, you’ll have more of the same enemies you found in the first area afterPetalburg- although this time without the spiky or regular Goombas.
ensure you scout the outside areas for items, as the battles with the enemies in each fortress are very difficult without them.
Next up is theFire Flower Fortress, which contains twoBristlesto defeat. These enemies can be pretty intimidating, but if you picked up a - you guessed it -Fire Flower, then this will make the fight a breeze.
There’sone more outdoor areaafter this fortress, with more enemies to defeat. Once you’ve battled or dodged your way through, you’ll be at theStar Fortress- ready for the quiz.
The Questions
There are a total ofseven questionsthat you could be asked in the quiz. If you getthree questions wrong, you’ll need to fight four Clefts.
However, answerfive correctly, then you won’t need to have a fight and canpass through unscathed.
The hardcore Paper Mario fans will notice that this is actually a continuation of the 64th Trivia Quiz-Offfrom the N64 entry in the franchise.
The Thwomp will always ask you if you’re sure of your answer before you submit. Also, the music may make you feel like you need to answer fast - but don’t worry, there’s no time limit here.
