A Soulslike isn’t complete without a safe hub, and accordingly,Nine Solsfeatures its own sanctuary known as the Four Seasons Pavilion. Yi can visit this area to seek respite from the brutal world of New Kunlun and interact with various NPCs that gather there, including a robot called Shanhai 9000.
Throughout the game, Yi will encounter similar robots, each holding a Map Data Chip. Part of Shanhai 9000’s quest involves collecting these chips. The robot thrives on the chips, while you need it to uncover detailed information on your map. It’s a win-win for both you and Shanhai 9000, so here’s where to find them.
What Are Map Data Chips Used For?
The areas on the world map are displayed as colored blocks, and a collection of these blocks forms a zone.In each zone, there will be a Shanhai robot, either functioning or out of service, from which you can obtain aMap Data Chip corresponding to that zone.
After obtaining a Map Data Chip, you cantake it back to Shanhai 9000in the Four Seasons Pavilion.
Shanhai 9000 will analyze it andunlock details about that zone’s map. This will then display acollection bar at the bottom left of the mapthat provides details like the presence of a mini-boss and the number of items you’re able to find in the area.
All Map Data Chip Locations
To hand the Map Data Chips to Shanhai 9000, you need torepair it first for 1,000 Jinsin the Four Seasons Pavilion. Once you’ve repaired Shanhai 9000, it will provide the map data for the safe zone and will ask you toretrieve more Map Data Chipsthat are spread across New Kunlun.
Where To Find The Power Reservoir Chip
ThePower Reservoir Chipis held by aShanhai 9000 in the Power Reservoir (Central)area. This will likely be the first Map Data Chip you’ll obtain. The robot is standing next to the Light Bridge that leads you to theboss Yingzhaoand Kuafu, the first Sol.
Request the chip from the robot, and it will kindly ask you toconsider paying 800 Jins, so it can give you the chip and make another copy for itself, as it can’t function without one. Otherwise, you can take it by force if you aren’t feeling too kind.
Most of the time, you will be presented with the choice topay 800 Jinsorremove the chip forciblyfrom the Shanhai robot.Choosing the latterrewards you with theYou Bastard… achievement.
Where To Find The Agricultural Zone Chip
To get theAgricultural Zone Chip, you first need to work your way to theGrotto of Scriptures (Entry)area throughLake Yaochi Ruins, where you’ll have a short interaction with theSol Goumang after entering an elevator.
Goumang’s pawns will destroy the elevator, and it will fall to the area below known as theGreenhouse. This is where you’ll find the data chip in the possession of another Shanhai 9000. The robot NPC is located in the top right section of the area.
Where To Find The Warehouse Zone Chip
The third Map Data Chip is known as theWarehouse Zone Chip, and you’ll obtain it from aShanhai 9000 standing next to the Root Node in the Outer Warehouse.
To reach the Outer Warehouse, youfirst need to reach the Factory (Great Hall)through the Cortex Center, where you cantake a lift down to the Factory (Underground). From there, proceed left to reach the Outer Warehouse.
Along the way, you’ll also learn theability to dash in the air, which is also needed to get to the Outer Warehouse.
Where To Find The Abandoned Mines Chip
TheAbandoned Mines Chipcan belooted from a destroyed Shanhai robotin theFactory (Underground)area. To find it, proceed right from the Root Node and climb the wooden platforms. Once you reach the top, head right once more, air dash across the crimson spikes, and grab the Map Data Chip.
Where To Find The Transmutation Zone Chip
TheTransmutation Zone Chipis found in theFactory (Production Area), which is right above theFactory (Great Hall). However, getting there requires theUnbounded Counter skill, which you’llacquire after defeating the Kanghui bossas you progress through the game.
With this skill, you canturn off the blazing firethat engulfs the Factory (Great Hall),allowing you to access the upper section of the area, where you’ll find an elevator that will take you to the Production Area. After that, simply work your way to the bottom right of the area to find the Shanhai 9000 that has the data chip.
Unlike the other robots,this one will start shooting crimson beamsat you as soon as you interact with it. To defeat it and claim the data chip, you must use the Unbounded Counter ability to parry the incoming beam and redirect it back at the robot.
Where To Find The Central Core Chip
After navigatingLady Ethereal’s Soulscapefrom theCortex Center, Yi will face her in a boss battle. Once you beat Lady Ethereal,you’ll obtain her Sol Sealand return to the Cortex Center. From there,head right to find a Shanhai robotthat has theCentral Core Chip.
The Shanhai 9000 won’t spawn until the Cortex Center changes into Lady Ethereal’s Soulscape and you beat this Sol.
Where To Find The Grotto Of Scriptures Chip
To get the seventh Map Data Chip, progress the story to the point where you’re able to fight theSol Jiin a boss battle in theAncient Stone Pillar. You’ll reach this area through a door that is right above the Root Node in Grotto of Scriptures (West).
Once you defeat the Sol, you can find aShanhai 1000 to the right of the room. This one will give you theGrotto of Scripture Chip.
The Ji boss fight happens near the endgame.
Where To Find The Empyrean District Chip
TheEmpyrean District Chipis found in theeastern part of the Empyrean District (Living Area). You can easily reach this area if you take the exit in the top left corner of the Grotto of Scriptures (West). This will take you to the Empyrean District (Passages) area, where you can ride a lift to the Living Area.
Where To Find The Research Institute Chip
To get the final Map Data Chip, you mustfirst obtain the Super Mutant Busterbybeating the Fuxi bossin the Sanctum area of the Empyrean District. This weapon will allow you to permanently kill the mutant that blocks your way to an elevator in the bottom left corner of the area.
Past the elevator, you cangrab the Elevator Access Token. You’ll need it toride the elevator to the Tiando Research Center, where you can collect theResearch Institute Chipfrom adestroyed Shanhai robot.
How To Get The Found You Achievement
Now that you’ve obtained the eight Map Data Chips,immediately deliver them to Shanhai 9000at the Pavilion hubbefore you can continue with the story.
Once you’ve done that, head to thebottom left corner of the Tianhuo Research Center, where you canenter Eigong’s Soulscapeandinteract with her.
After regaining your senses, exit the Tianhuo Research Center while surviving a gauntlet of enemies to reach the Tiando Research Center. Shanhai 9000 will have relocated to the bottom left part of the area. Once you find him there, you’ll obtain theFound You achievement.
