Summary
Ace Attorney Investigations Collectionhas finally brought Prosecutor’s Gambit to the West for the first time, though fans are struggling to deal with the localized name changes after having been used to the fan translation for so long.
Nintendo dropped one of the best Directs we’ve seen in recent years earlier today, with a mixture ofexciting first-partyandthird-party releasesto look forward to over the rest of 2024 and beyond. One of these exciting announcements wasthe reveal of Ace Attorney Investigations Collection, a remaster of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and its sequel, Prosecutor’s Gambit.
While the first game was released on the Nintendo DS way back in 2009, this collection brings Prosecutor’s Gambit to the West for the first time, as it’s only been available to people in places in the US and UK via fan translations. That meansAce Attorneyfans have been used to certain names for certain characters for quite a while, which probably explains why the reaction to certain characters having their real names now revealed is so hostile.
Ace Attorney Fans Are Going Wild Over Localized Prosecutor’s Gambit Names
To be fair, having some of your favorite characters renamed out of the blue would be a little strange for any fanbase to deal with, but the absurdity of these new character namesis driving fans up the wall. Sebastian Debeste is the character getting the worst end of the stick, as he’s traded in his rather suave and sophisticated name for Eustace Winner, and I shouldn’t have to drive home how much of a downgrade it is going from Sebastian toEustace.
Other characters are also getting a bit of grief, though fans appear to be much more on board with Raymond Shield and Justine Courtney’s new names. These two have been renamed to Eddie Fender and Verity Gavèlle, two top tier puns for the defense and judge respectively, and very on brand for the Ace Attorney series. Just spare a thought for poor Eustace, though something tells me the modders are already hard at work to give him his old name back.
