UniVersusmay be a game where Cowboy Bebop and Critical Role can hang out in one deck, but the series that really put it on the map is My Hero Academia. Set in a world where superpowers are commonplace and kids train to be ‘Pro Heroes’, the card game has enjoyed immense popularity across its many sets.
For the latest release, My Hero Academia: Girl Power, UVS Games is taking a look at the women of the series. Whether it’s students like Kyioka Jiro or Mina Ashido, Pro Heroes like Mount Lady and Mirko, or even villains like Himiko Toga, they all get to shine and put their quirks to good use in your deck.
UVS Games has given us 23 cards to reveal from the set, which includes a ton of reprints to help catch up your collection, and, of course, spicy secret rares featuring your favourite characters.
Reprints
Girl Power is bringing back a ton of cards from older My Hero Academia sets. Not only help you play your heroes with their signature attacks, it also either keeps or outright returns cards into the Standard format for a few more years.
Description
Cheerleader

ResponseRemove, spend 1 momentum: After an attack is played, it gains Flash.
Hagakure First FormFlip: Both players build the top card of their deck face down. Only playable if your rival has 8 or fewer foundations.
Creeping VIne Eruption
Attack – Throw – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 3 Block – Earth/Life/Water – 2 Low Speed – 5 Damage
Enhance: If this attack deals less than 5 damage add 1 copy of “Faith’s Shield” from your discard pile to your hand.
Eri
Ally – Unique – 2 Difficulty – 5 Check – 3 Block – Evil/Good/Life
While this card is in your stage, at the start of your End Phase, ready 1 non-Unique asset or foundation that was not readied during this turn’s Combat Phase.
ResponseRemove, spend 1 momentum: Before the Damage Step of your rival’s attack, reduce its damage to your current health minus 1 (min. 1.)
Faith’s Shield
Foundation – 2 Difficulty – 4 Check – 3 Block – Earth/Life/Water
ResponseRemove: After you block with this card, this attack deals no damage. FLip this attack after it resolves.
EnhanceDestroy: This Charge or Stun attack gets -2 damage.
Ibara Shiozaki
Character – 1-B – Student – 6 Difficulty – 6 Check – 0 Block – Earth/Life/Water – 7 Hand Size – 19 Life
Enhance:This attack gets -1 damage. Your next attack this turn gets +3 damage.
Enhance[Once per turn]: Your next low attack ignores progressive difficulty.
Instant Shining Flash
Attack – Charge – Ranged – Weapon – 4 Difficulty – 3 Check – 1 Block – Death/Earth/Life – 4 High Speed – 4 Damage
EnhanceFlip 1 foundation: The next card you attempt to play this turn gets -1 difficulty.
Response: After you play this card, your rival spends 1 momentum.
Invisible Infiltration
Attack –Hagakure Breaker: 2– 4 Difficulty – 3 Check – 2 Block – Air/Good/Water – 3 Low Speed – 5 Damage
Enhance:This attack gets +1 damage for every 4 foundations in your rival’s stage.Enhance:Remove 1 foundation from either player’s stage. After this attack resolves, the owner of the removed foundation builds it up from their removed from game pile face up.
Piercing Thorn Lances
Attack – Charge – Ranged – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 2 Block – Earth/Life/Water – 4 Low Speed – 5 Damage
Enhance:Add 1 other low attack from your card pool to your momentum.
Shiozaki Enhance: Your rival must reveal a high block as an additional cost to block this attack.
Toru Hagakure .II
Character – 1-A – Student – 6 Difficulty – 6 Check – 0 Block – Air/Good/Water – 6 Hand Size – 27 Life
Enhance:Your rival’s block modifier to block this attack gets +1. It gets an additional +1 for every 4 foundations in their stage.
ResponseCommit: After your rival plays an attack, add it to their hand. Look at the top card of your rival’s deck. You may discard it.
Uwabami
Character – Pro Hero – 6 Difficulty – 6 Check – 0 Block – Chaos/Earth/Life – 6 Hand Size – 25 Life
Response:At the start of your rival’s End Phase, add 1 card from your card pool to your hand.
EnhanceRemove 3 cards from your discard pile: The next printed 3 damage attack you try to play gets -1 difficulty and +1 damage.
Enhance[Once per turn, your turn]: Add 1 printed 3 damage attack from your discard pile to your hand.
Wild Wild Pussycats
Foundation – Ally – 2 Difficulty – 5 Check – 2 Block – Death/Fire/Life
Response:After you block an attack with this card, that attack loses Echo.
FormFlip: Reveal the top 3 cards of your deck. Add 1 foundation revealed this way to your hand and discard the rest.
The big addition among these cards is Instant Shining Flash, Toru Hagakure’s special attack that sees her refract light to cause a tremendous, blinding flash. This is the oldest reprint in the set, having not been seen since the very first MHA release, meaning it will be re-entering Standard having previously rotated out.
We’ve also got a huge number of cards from Crimson Rampage. Though it hasn’t rotated out just yet, the inclusions of Ibara Shiozaki, Creeping Vine Eruption, and Faith’s Shield all guarantee we’ll be seeing Ibara played for at least another year.
The inclusion of the Wild Wild Pussycats' Tiger confirms we could see a few men pop up in the set too. Still holding out hope for my boy Jurota Shishida.
There are also a few cards that have only been seen before as promos, which is exciting. Piercing Thorn Lances, Uwabami, and the Wild Wild Pussycats have all not been part of a regular set before, giving you access to Ibara’s signature attack and a new pro hero to build your deck around in Uwabari.
New Cards
Of course, this set is all about the women of My Hero Academia. Students, Pro Heroes, and Villains alike are all making appearances, and with them come their signature attacks that make a large bulk of the set’s secret rares.
Regular Art
Acid Screen
Attack –Deflect: 4– Ranged – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 2 Block – Death/Void/Water – 4 High Speed – 7 Damage
Face down cards do not count towards progressive difficulty to play this card.
Enhance:If there is a face down card in either player’s card pool, draw 1 card.
Audio Reverberation
Attack – Charge –EX: 2– Ranged – Tech – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 2 Block – All/Good/Order – 4 Low Speed – 7 Damage
Response[Card Pool]: After your blocked attack resolves, your Charge attacks get +1 damage this turn.
Big Fist Bash
Attack –Breaker: 3– Punch – Slam – 4 Difficulty – 3 Check – 3 Block – All/Order/Water – 3 Mid Speed – 3 Damage
When you try to play this card, if you have 3 or more cards in your card pool, it gets -1 difficulty and +2 damage.
EnchanceDiscard 2 cards: Add 1 mid attack not named “Big Fist Bash” from your card pool to your hand.
Gigantification Swing
Attack – Charge – Fury – Slam – Weapon – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 2 Block – Chaos/Earth/Evil/Order – 4 Mid Speed – 5 Damage
EnhanceSpend 1 momentum: Your checks to play Charge, Fury, and Slam attacks get +1 this turn.
Response: After you play this card, your rival’s next check to play a card gets -2.
Luna Tijeras
Attack – Fury –Deadlock Powerful: 4–Throw– 6 Difficulty – 3 Check – 3 Block – Air/Death/Fire – 3 Mid Speed – 7 Damage
This attack gets -1 difficult for each card that has left your card pool this turn.
Enhance:If this attack is blocked, your rival discards half their momentum (rounded up).
Net Launcher
Attack – Charge – Weapon – 5 Difficulty – 3 Check – 1 Block – Earth/Good/Life – 4 Mid Speed – 5 Damage
EnhanceCommit 3 face up foundations that do not share a name: This attack gets +3 speed, +6 damage, and gains Stun: 2.
EnhanceSpend 1 momentum: Build 1 foundation from your discard pile. Choose 1 foundation in your rival’s discard pile. They build the chosen foundation.
Alt Art
I especially love the addition of the kanji of each hero’s name on the alt-art. For instance, the text on the alt-art Net Launcher reads Momo Yaoyorozu. It’s even in the same font used in the anime and manga when characters are introduced and describes, which is a really nice touch.
Girl Power marks the debut of Itsuka Kendo into the game, after being teased back in the third set, Heroes Clash, with Focused Attack. Here, her Big Fist Bash fits her theme of having cards in your card pool; in particular, mid attack cards will pair very well with Focused Attack. To top it all off, Big Fist Bash is the first card ever printed with Breaker 3, reducing your opponent’s next check by a whopping three.
We also get to see Mirko’s secret rare, Luna TIjeras. Mirko is the best, and therefore this is the best card.
